Hi Guys, have no motor in my torrie at moment & have access to a real nice 292 cubed chevy inline 6.. Anybody seen or done this conversion before ?? I have seen 1 in an EH but the LJ's engine bay is smaller... I understand these engines are longer, higher, heavier & maybe even wider than the old red motor, But also more powerful, which is what I'm after.. Have been told radiator support & maybe trans tunnel mods to make it fit... Any HELP will be greatly appreciated.. Many Thanks in advance for your time & efforts....

i have heard ther is asalt lake racer with a lj 4 door with a chevy six in it, i reckon with the right mount's it would fit but you would have to run a thermo fan on the front of the engine as it would be too close to the radiator

I to heard similar.... LC torrie with a 310 stroker & tripples, apparently it's featured in a magazine... Having to run thermo fans is least of my worries, I'm hoping the waterpump isn't sitting where the radiator should... Something different -- v8 power from an inline 6 should get some hands scrachin heads...

I didn't think it was possible to get a smaller bay (in red 6 powered cars ) than EH? either way there cant be much in it.
The beauty of using a 292 is that they bolt up to TH350....gearbox issues sorted!
As for mounting it in there...I would try find a TK Bedford or the like and measure the engine mounts in it....there would have to be a bolt in solution as Holden V8's came in later Bedfords.

The 292 is a couple of inches longer and a few inches taller - I've got some dimensions here somewhere I'll try to find them. It's also a fair bit heavier than the Holden six. I guess they have the advantage of looking somewhat original but if that wasn't a factor and I wanted to stay with a straight six I'd much rather something like a 2jz or a even a 1fz-fe. Much as I hate to admit it both the Holden and Chev sixes are shit by modern standards.

im sure there was a LJ in street machine few months back with this conversion.
Was a MPH racer with inline Chev 6 and twin holley carbs.
regardless you will need to modify firewall.
what are parts like?
a 265 hemi would also be a good straight six conversion?
