Last night, whilst putting the extractors back in the car i knocked against the steering column, where it comes out from the firewall and before it meets the coupling and this large circlip fell out.

I have no idea how to put it back in the way it was as i never noticed it before, i can see the holes in the metal for it, just after the plastic bit.

Has anyone come across this before?

Does anyway have any pics to help.

Ihave tried looking through all my books and photo's and dont have one of that area.

If you are referring to a round wire circlip about 2" ID it goes inside the steering column outer to retain the plastic bush. You may have to knock the plastic bush in a bit to fit the circlip correctly.

Hope this helps.

Hey Struggler,

Thats it, when i got home from work i had another look at the steering and i noticed the three holes in the support, and put two and two together, the clip was a bit bent, so i had to straighten it, but its all good now!

Thanks again!
