Inside at the top of the rear strut tower there is a triangular brace on some hatchbacks but not on others.
I think it may be difference between 4cyl and 6cyl/8cyl.
Mine is a 1978 UC 4cyl sunbird hatch and doesnt have the triangular bracing.

It might be something to do with the different floorpans?

Do the LX's have them on both sides of the car?
It might be something to do with the different floorpans?
Yep LX's have them on both sides.
Here is a link to a 6cyl 78 UC on E-bay that shows them on both sides of it also.

So musn't have anything to do with the different floorpan, starting to think it must have been a 4cyl omission?
Strange that Holden would decide that a shell is going to receive a 4cyl Engine.
Makes it slightly easier to minitub.

Fair idea Michael, but.... Was John P Head also smart enough to cover his stuff up with specially made Wheel arch carpet sections?

be interesting to see when it first appeared in the UC's..
Another thing that some people don't realise is that the rare hatch floor in a UC is higher that in an LX...
cheers

Today i looked at 2 LX and 2 UC hachbacks. I was expecting both the LXs to have the bracing and they did.
Both the UCs were 1978 models and they also both had the bracing.
