Hey all,
While changing over my extractors i recently discovered a set of small (about 19mm) welsh plugs in the side of the head on my red 6. The head is a high comp, nine port (possibly yella terra). I wouldnt have bothered except one had a hole in it so i pulled it out and took it in to repco. They only stocked 18 or 20mm welsh plugs so i bought a few of each and tried to fit them. The 18mm ones go straight in without any resistance at all and just sort of sit in the side of the head, not tight at all (can pull them in and out with one finger), while the 20mm ones will not go in even with large amounts of persuasion from a hammer and other belting implements. Has anyone else experienced this problem and what was their solution. Thanks, Luke.

My head just came back from head shop and that has new welsh plugs on the side as your talking about so they are available. Has PP embossed in a diamond if that helps track down a brand. Recipt doesn't specically mention welsh plugs so cant give you any more info.

i suggest just calling up a engine shop and asking them first off, probably easier to take your head in to get them to put them in shouldnt take very long at all, then at least u know its done right.

Luke, The problem is you are trying to fit metric welsh plugs to an imperial sized hole. Just call Repco, tell them what your after, they should have them in stock,

Don't replace one, replace all of them, if one has rotted out the others won't be far behind - theres nothing worse than putting the manifolds and stuff back on and then finding the others are stuffed too. If you do the job on the car make sure you get the old plugs out of the head, if they are left inside they can create hot spots.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. You were right about the metric thing Andrew, i rang a local auto shop and they had 3/4" plugs, bit over 19 mm. Hopefully these ones go in sweeter than the last ones. And will replace them all, thanks for the tip.
