the power seems to cut out randomly; like today i drive to work all sweet, after work i got in the car and had no power. after playin with all the harnesses for a while i got power, could it just be a severed wire somewhere in the hareness? or something more?

More info?
No power? No dash lights?
You played with the harness?
Was it the one that runs out of the firewall and around the back of the engine?
If so I would look at the harness plug to the right of the booster looking from the front. Disconnect it and look for burnt/bad spade connectors.
Good luck!

Check the main wire from the battery to the starter motor. It can touch on the exhaust and short out everything. It is also intermittent. There's not much room down there. Look for tell tale weld like marks on the extractors. Cable really needs to face in as much as possible straight off the solenoid.

I assume that no power means, that absolutely nothing works even when the ignition is off, such as the headlights or interior lights?
If so, then the prob has to be in your main power feed, which as stated in the two posts ^ does go through the connector near the booster and run through the main cable to the starter.
If the main cable is shorting out, you'll be seeing some serious arcing and a very warm battery while it is happening or evidence of bared wire on the lead near exhaust/engine. Its worth checking the connection at the battery and at the connections at the starter for integrity.
The important connection in the harness 'should be" a very thick red wire which handles all the current, as ^ check it out, and while you have it open clean up the rest of the contacts as well. You can remove each pin from the harness separately by pushing at the "right spot" on the metal connector(they arent moulded in)
The wire then goes direct to the ignition switch and the live portion of the fuse panel, there are no other connections(other than the branching wire at the ign switch) that can cause any further probs.
