Hi all. Just wondering how I would go about puting a Nissan RB20 DET in an LX hatch - I had thought of getting an RB30 from a VL Commodore, but a mechanic friend reckons they're generally much more expensive, so an RB20 it is. Of course, I now realise it's not just a simple matter of swapping the engine - I seem to have a rather long list of things to wonder about, such as:
Would a VL k-frame fit the LX chassis, and would this be suitable for the RB20?
Should I consider replacing the LX front suspension with suspension from a VL?
Will I have fuel pump issues (mechanical engine mounted Vs electric) and will I need to replace the fuel tank as a result?
I have more, but this is probably enough for now. I'd like to hear from anyone who has done this sort of conversion before - what problems you had and how you overcame them. And if anyone has any articles on this subject from any magazines, please pass them on.

Thanks.

The front end design of the 2 cars is completely different and won't interchange anything.
Your Tory has upper and lower control arms and Commy has Mcpherson strut.
I hope this means something to you.

Thanks.
I just found out about this site from another member with whom I work. I'm just in the planning stage of my project, and I want to find out if its feasable before I do something silly, like buy the car or the engine. I have to admit, I don't know a HUGE amount about cars, and frankly I get a little lost in some of the more technical lingo, but this is the stuff I'm here to learn about.
I've wanted an LX Hatch since my cousin let me drive his when I was 15, and some of the guys I work with have put Nissan engines into their cars, so I thought "let's see if it can be done".

Damm! Yeah, you could say that!
I've heard of it being done, but I haven't met anyone who has done it - it's like one of those urban myths to me!

Leigh, that would inspire someone who isn't even alive it's that cool!

Diana, just gotta look around heaps, there have even been Toranas with Ford V8s fitted. An urban myth for me is a Rotary in a Torana...
