hi all
I decided to remove the mechanical fan from my car after constant overheating issues while just idling ( still have to get radiator flushed as well )

I decided on one huge 16 inch fan ( faster tip speed ) than 2 smaller 10 or 8 inch jobies.

Bought it from ebay, and wasnt to keen on those dodgy connectors that come with the kit, so decided to make some brackets instead.

I also have a craig davies thermostat fitted as well ( no shots of that ) , that only works when ignition coil is on, and when the relay comes on it lights up a led on my guage cluster to tell me the fans running.

Enjoy
cheers julian

I like the light idea too. Light comes on, look at the temp guage. Not like older Holdens. Light comes on, too late!

Julian, Well done mate! That looks fantastic! I'm doing the same as you with the temp sensor triggering the relay to power the fans AND a light on the dash.. Unforuntately it'll only show that there's power TO the fans, not that its actually spinning! BUT... better than nothing :)

I Love your mounting brackets! i reckon you could priduce those and sell them! Lots of people would buy them as theyre a bolt on fit!

Only other thing i might suggest is using a bit of heat resistant foam to fill in around the edge of the fan and the radiator so that the fan can only draw from through the core rather than around the shroud!

Cheers mate, Great install and pics!
Thanks.

Hey man, your pritty good with these brackets, they look shop bought. Whats involved with making them? need any special tools?

Maybe you could wire up something that tells you when your fan is not on. you know like turn the car on and it stays alight for 5 seconds then flicks off, if the fan turns on.

Anyway looks tops. :spoton:

Cheers.

To have a warning light that tells you the thermo fan isn't working could be done. The relay from the temp sensor would need to power a current sensing device. The device would then need to trip a flashing LED if no current draw is sensed. If current is being drawn in the wire that feeds power to the fan, it generally means the fan is working. It is possible that the fan is drawing current, but not working properly, so you may need to play around with the settings.

im lucky at my work to have a guilotine and bender and roller , and some pretty shit hot sheetys ( welders ), and I work for a food company so everything is stainless. The guys at work love doing my foreign orders for me , as long as I return the favour ( fix their computers , set up home networks , sparky work or various it stuff )

You could do it at home with a vice and a soft hammer, and a tig , but drilling stainless is hard work, dont even try it with blunt drill bits, no chance of ever getting through.
