I fitted the alloy drop tank to the LC, hooked up the sender line ,put 20L in it (It takes 100l) and the gauge went straight to Full. Any ideas? I seem to remember the gauge defaults to full without a signal. Correct? Have no idea what the sender is from.

Rory, If you can get the sender out easily, use a multimeter on the wire out of teh sender, ( on the Ohms setting(horse shoe incase you didnt know!)) and slowly move the arm through its full range.

I dont know what readings that sender gives, but on my HQ one, its 0-30 Ohms, 30 empty and 0 full... theyre a shit sender cause any open circuit by a damaged sender will give 0 ohms ( and send the needle skyward!).
If you see any readings that arent "smooth" as you move the arm, then youve got some damage on the little wiper arm that is inside the sender mech. Especially if you see 0 ohms as discussed above.

I had my sender overhauled and callibrated by a guy in camden south of sydney. He repaired guages so i'd say anyone local who repairs guages could help you out!

In the end, i went to rare spares and got a reconditioned one from them, they spent alot of time with me and my drop tank on their bench to get one that read pretty close to right. Oddly enough.. the Std HQ sender was it! They sold me one with the pickup removed and brazed over as i had pickup lines in the tank already. Very helpful!

Cheers mate!

I'd say it would be an open circuit somehwere mate.. Best to test is as i tried to describe, and maybe have it overhauled! (I'm assuming your fuel guage is ok?? )

Cheers mate!
