What Mufflers are used to keep the "Noise" down a bit (atleast legal LOL)On these powerhouse V8's...I mean if your Putting out 400+HP,would aneone can reconmend some good solutions/brands...?
The ones iv got on now are OK up to 3500 rpm, after that the Motor really "cracks"(great sound offcourse) But have attracted the attentions of certain uniformed "citizens"...had them follow me home once, must have heard me testing out second gear in the back streets...as soon as they saw me come past (they were conducting some business at a house on the main road)they jumped in their "wagon", and in my rearview,i can see them rushing to get behind me..and followed me home which was not too far away.Well nothing happened,I just drove quietly into my street and straight into my driveway, where they stoped a few cars away from my entrance,i pretended not to noticed them, still leeping an eye on them..lol well they were doing radio check maybe..and then left..so got me thinking maybe to avoid future probs,a set of new Mufflers are needed..
Phew..hope that explain my situation,I still want to keep the Deep "Growl" of the 308..but need some stealths at normal driving situations..SO,What experiences with Muffler have you all had..?
Cheers

Butterfly valves in the exhaust

Never seen it done on an aftermarket system but my god that would be awesome. Aston Martin DB9s etc use them; it'd be wicked on a Torrie.

I really like the edelbrock RPM's for the reasons you are looking for but they cost a fair bit. Never tried them on a holden V8 though.

These ^^^ electric exhaust cut outs would be ideal if legal.
Anyone ever tried them for street use?

Sorry for straying slightly off topic (Mufflers)

Well I'm sure they're no more illegal than a loud exhaust.

I reckon its a kick ass idea. Is it bad to run around with them on often? Does it choak your engine badly? Or is it just like a muffler?

QIKSLR, they dont go on your main pipe, when you open them they dump the exhaust out the pipe on the valve, when theyre closed your exhaust goes as normal, through your main pipe and mufflers.

Ah, i thought they were ment to just go between a flange and when they half close it would choak the exhaust to shut it up. So these are like a good version of those Mr Gasket things they used to make.

I have used magnaflows but they too are expensive.
You can also get these valves that don't close all the way that you can put in your normal exhaust system.
I would like to do this one day and then build some dummy mufflers around them to hide them from the police!

Anyone seen the "sound control motor" that is advertised in Street Machince. Advertiser is Supercat Performance and they look like the butterfly valve is full of holes so gases can still get through. I have thought about something like this quite a bit, because you can have the best of both worlds, a nice quite(quiter) system and at the flick of a switch, its back to the noisy beast that we all love. Good for scaring the shit outta ricers as they try to take you on at the lights :D

Just add 2 small body hotdog resonators, they will get it to a respectable level for under $300 fitted.

Do They affect performance much? And how quieter is the sound level?

the link matt posted is what you want. and have 4 8mm holes drilled in as a minimum noise when fully closed.
could also easily make your own manual version for less than $100 i reckon.

get an extra thick 2 bolt exhaust flange (12mm), get an old big throttle body from the wreckers (or just pocket the shaft and butterfly) bore a hole through the centre of the flange, insert shaft, insert butterfly, knock up an arm for it and hook it up to a choke cable....voila

I have twin 3 and half inch mufflers that are 22 inches long, they are copies of the Edelbrock ones, the engine is louder than the exhaust. The noise from the rear is 97 decibles, and is good cruizing. Not much drone. Get them from Jeggs or Summit direct takes about a week or two, through DHL much cheaper than local.
