Almost ready to lay down some primer, but i havent used 2pack before only acrylic. I asked the paint shop what ratio to mix it at and he said 4:1 primer/hardner but then i noticed the tin said 5:1:1, which is 5parts primer to 1 part hardner and 1 part somthing (reducer maybe???)? I shouldnt have read the tin it just confused me .

if you go with the tin it will dry faster in this cold weather i'll go 5.1.1 but nont mix too much at a time most 300ml just to fill the gun

I'd also go with what the paint tin says too, although i don't normally use as much thinners as it recommends.

Most Primer fillers are 4:1:1 thats probably why he recommended it, what brand are you using?. I'm asking as you would probably need to get a measuring/mixing stick with the 5:1:1 ratio on it as most mixing sticks have 4:1:1 for primers and 2:1 for topcoats on the other side.

I normally only use about 1/3 of the thinners part so it builds a bit better.

Im using Lesonal 2K Primer 420 and Lesonal 2k primer hardener 760. I think your right ill just stick with what the tin says.

if you go with the tin it will dry faster in this cold weather i'll go 5.1.1 but nont mix too much at a time most 300ml just to fill the gun

Wouldnt a mix of 4:1 go off quicker than 5:1 since theres more hardener in 4:1 mix?

use 4:1 it will dry faster, thats all.
mix as much reducer as you like to get the consistancy your after.
generally you wont need much reducer as the hardener thins it down a lot

its the same undercoat that I used, I mixed it 5:1 and thinned till I was happy. when I was painting it was fairly warm so it dried well, now that its a bit colder, i would be tempted to go 4:1 or get some faster hardener. if you go 4:1, you will need to use more thinners.
out of curiosity, how much did you par for your primer/hardener/thinners?

I really cant remember, i had this left over from when i got my q sedan painted 3 years ago. I get the feeling the 4L of primer cost around $90 but im not sure how much the hardner cost. He paint shop told me the primer costs somthing like $140 or so now but i cant remember how much he said the hardener was.

Excuse my stupidity when it comes to 2pack but is reducer the same as thinners, what type of thinners do i use to thin down the mix if thats the case? Still learning about 2pack, before i get to the colour ill be picking some brains at the paint shop :).

yeah 2k reducer is used instead of thinner with 2k paint and primer.

you still use normal thinner to wash the gun out with though

yeah, I used Lesanol 810-C multi thinners. you would go broke using that to wash your gun! just use shit KnH stuff for that, just make sure you get to it before it dries!
