Hey Guys, I am looking at using the Holden Morpheus Metallic for the LH. I have been doing a bit of research and cannot get one question answered for certain.

Some people say before laying the pruple down, use a cream coloured base. Others say primer grey is fine and lastly, some say Silver would be best.

I am edging more toward the silver as I believe Morpheus is a very thin/clear colour and the silver would shine through. But then, having the primer grey would prolly make the colour a little darker (which wouldn't look bad either).

What are your thoughts?

DEFINETLY if it is a semi-transparent colour. Lay a base colour down first. I'd be using silver, or you could use a white or something.

My colour is transparent, and I just sprayed it straight over primer, and it lost lots of its vibrance. I wish i knew before hand to paint it over a silver base or something :(

In the sunlight, you dont notice it... But as soon as the sun goes behind the clouds, the colour dulls off.

I parked my car next to another torry the same colour as mine (Electric orange) and his was HEAPS brighter! He said he sprayed his over a white base

I rekon Silver it is then!

I do like OrangeLJ's "Purple wallet/time eater" and the base for that looks like it was white(ish)

You should really use the base that the brand of paint that your using recommends. Each paint manufacturer will have their own way of formulating colours and their own coloured ground coats.

For example, Glasurit recommends using a ground coat that consists of a white base with a really small dash of black, whereas you will find other brands might have a different method of acheiving the same colour.

In my experience with Electric Orange and again the paint system we use at work, its an Orange ground coat, then a pearl coat to achieve the colour.

Or alternatively, you could experiment with a few different coloured bases under your colour and then decide, thats what I would do if you unsure of what you are going to get. I'd spray a few pieces of tinplate/sheet metal with your different coloured ground coats and then decide.

Acrylic metallics and pearls are a Clear over Base as well, ie. colour has no gloss component so it requires to be clear coated.
