Anybody have any pics of an LH/X with an a9x style bonnet scoop that is completely flareless?
I'm thinking of getting a spare bonnet [original is too straight to cut up] from the wrecker and throwing one on to remove some underbonnet heat from my worked 308.

Only I was thinking the scoop without front spoiler or flares might look crap, anybody have opinions on it?.

Car does have SL/R Stripe and blackouts though.

Heath maybe? Surely you must have a pic of one mate :)

This is my LX sedan without flares and spoilers and only the A9X scoop.

I'm intending on changing it all in the near future to go back to a standard bonnet, add front and rear spoilers, colour change and new wheels/stance.

I'm going to have to delete most of that album pretty soon because some of my photos are being wanted to be uploaded like four times so they're all up there with different names.

P.S. Sorry Rick I don't have a photo of your car from the front with the new paintjob :P

Thanks heaps for that!
I think that looks pretty damn good in green, I like it!
Mine is the cognac gold/brown colour so it might not good.

Your ride height is a hell of alot higher than mine too I noticed, so perhaps lower might break up not having flares some more.

[edit] Also thanks Heath a few on there that gave me a good idea with different colours and angles, I dont mind it at all, I quite like the style.

I'm beginning to think my ride height is incredibly low (205/60/R13 front and rear guards cover nip of top of tyre), all these torries have pogo-stick suspension compared to mine :)

The green is a dark green pearl base with green and gold metalflake over it. I liked it at first now i can't stand it......Ultra Blue is next i thinks.

The ride height is the way it is due to incorrect tyre choice on the front wheels, a lower profile would help but i really like the look of SLR caps on 13's like yours and it bugs me the way mine sits like a hilux.

I personally really like the colour of your SLR, and i think the A9X scoop with the factory markings you already have will give it a "factory freak" muscle car look to it.

Hah, thanks :)

The 13's are becoming increasingly hard to keep (and I dont like them without the white text on the tyres which are becomming even harder to get).

I really would love a set of these rims (but with a shallower dish at the rear equal to the front)::

Unfortunately, there is no way in hell I could ever afford to convert all the stud pattern etc. to fit them nor the tubbing required - nor would I tub my SL/R. (unless I could get them in smaller width!). Or even afford the wheels themselves while being a poor uni student :)

But by far the best I have ever seen. I love the studded look and the black center with highly polished rim.
Would gladly accept a set for christmas that's for sure :)

Sorry to steal the thread but is that car sable metallic? as im thinking of painting my slr that colour as thats what the original colour was, although ill do a lx style paint job with the black bonnet and full bodykit with slr5000 down the sides.

Not sure in my mind what a full length cowl looks like, I checked my photo's and don't appear to have much in the way of scoops, some hornets on a few models seems to be about it apart from A9X scoops that is.

Maybe someone else can post what you want.

I have a Royal Plum Metalllic SL/R with black bonnet + scoop, I added the scoop in my younger days using flare bolts. When I can find a decent cold air scoop I will get a hole cut in the bonnet.

It has never had flares and that's the way I like them. It also has a rear spoiler and until recently I had a front spoiler though trashed it reversing in an unpaved uneven car park.

I have gotten used to the look without front spoiler and feel a lot more comfortable driving around without constantly having to worry about scraping.

A pity I don't have a digital camera.

Herne' nice looking LX, could you give us some specs on it? I love the wheels; some sorta 12-Slotters in Torana stud pattern?

Yup 12 slotters in std Torana Pattern.

1976 S/L I was the 3rd owner and purchased the car from my nephew who didnt have it long.

I fitted a 120 litre drop tank (cost s/h $350.00 complete)
I also fitted a sports dash.
Previous owner fitted lowered springs and shocks - not sure what brand.
I fitted the scoop and black bonnet.

engine was a 173
Trimatic
13" sports steering wheel
The car had a neat and tidy interior in VG to excellent condition
No idea how fast that thing went but I flew past a mate in his immaculate 308 hatch who at the time was taking it easy and cruising nicely at just over 160kph, mine was still climbing. I have no idea why this thing went so quick.
Rear tyres were 245/50/13 from memory and the fronts were 225/50/13 I think. It stuck to the road pretty well.

I sold the car about 12 months ago for 3k and in the sale i included the original white bonnet, a set of A9X flares. An almost new 3 core V8 Radiator (not fitted) and a plastic bobtail....
I fabricated a custom carpeted boot, 800? watt amp, 500 watt amp and 1000watt sub woofer with boot lighting to match.

Just prior to the sale I removed the body strips down the side of the car as it was about to have a 2k paint job (about $6000) and 253 fitted. Fully flared of course lol
I really do miss that car.

Cheers

Awesome info Herne. Keep in mind that 173s are a pretty magic engine when they're tuned correctly. Everyone just goes 202s coz they're higher capacity, I have a feeling the power difference wouldn't be very big, but the economy difference isn't to be trifled at necessarily :spoton:

Neat LX normally I'd be able to help you out, but I have absolutely no idea about this one lol.
