Hi All, I have been away for quite soem time but still have my old torana sitting in the shed after i got it up and running again.
What i am wondering is i currently have triple Su Carbs on it but have been told to scrap them and put VK injection on it. Which will be cheaper to get then fixing the triples and will also improve performance and fuel effiency etc.

IS this hard to do.
I am hunting for a VK complete at the moment to take off osme other parts such as hubs and bits and pieces. Any help will be handy.
The car is a 79 UC Hatch with 202 mild worked, Yella Terra Head Crow Cam stage 3 and extracors, Other then thats she is pretty stock.

Thanks Guys.
Tim

Well fitting the VK EFI manifold will require a 12-port head and suitable flanges on your extractors as well. It's not a whole lot of work, but you already have a ported head with big valves etc and you couldn't use that stuff with the VK EFI setup.

Then EFI systems (in general, not just the VK setup) need a different style of fuel system with a pump at the tank and a high pressure line, a return line etc which you don't need with a carbie obviously.

So unless you have a good reason to use that setup, which isn't a particularly impressive setup, I would just suggest sorting your SUs out. I think you could probably get them to at least provide equal fuel economy and potentially more impressive performance, but that really depends on a lot of small details... and how willing you are to get the combination sorted out well.

Ohh yeah and triples sound awesome

thought not.

Fix the triples I say....are we just talking rekitting them? or something else?

Pfft yeah, right.

Only real advantage of the efi is easyer starting etc.

Bit hard to beat SU's in a mild application.

I think the VK setup would probably have the edge on bottom end and midrange torque, but whether it would justify all the buggerising around with fuel pumps and lines, wiring etc. I don't know. Top end I'd expect the SU's to be better. I've always had very good results from SU's and as Heath said they'd probably give better mileage anyway. Rebuild kits for 3 SUs will be much cheaper than the EFI conversion (it's amazing how all the little bits and pieces add up) and will take a fraction of the time. So I'd vote to stick with the SU's too. But if you do decide to go EFI I have a complete assembly less tank and pump.

I put a VK EFI into an LX years ago, and the manifold stuck out the bonnet. One of theose "bugger" moments.

In all honesty, most of the time and effort is in sorting out the fuel and wiring. The same amount of work is required for any EFI engine, so if it were me I'd go buy a complete VN-VSIII EFI 5L. Much easier fitment, bolts straight into a UC with sump and pickup swap using Torana mounts. And you will be able to buy a complete running engine with all bits for less than $1500.

Hi All,
Thanks for all the help. Guess i will keep my triples now :) they work good but has been sitting for a while. 1 of them wont hold the oil so it needs to be looked at and the other 2 need rekitting. I am not sure what else needs to be done to them as they were working on teh car but it has sat now for 2 years not moving at all.
Anyone know a good guy in brissy area that i can talk to or take them to ???
I took the car out willowbank like 4 years ago maybe and it ran 16 sec as it was but the carbs were not tuned or anything properly. so hopefully i can get a lil more out of the old girl :)

Thanks Tim
