Conned a mate into helping me over the weekend to take both of my cars out for an attempt at a photoshoot. These are the best of the pics;

By far the A9X is a better road car, it goes around corners and has brakes that actually give you confidence the they are upto the job. The HO is a bit of a handful but absolutely exhilirating to drive, the highly strung engine, raucous engine note and knowing that you are driving a car so valuable and with so much history behind it gives a real rush. The A9X l can jump in a fang and not worry about its value or scrtaching it as its had paint and not immaculate, the HO however is mint unrestored and nerve racking around traffic as its irreplacable.

These cars although only 6 years apart in age feel like they are from different eras and of course were built to suceed in different touring car formulas. To me they represent the best of their respective breeds and the are most successful factory spec race cars built in Oz.

Cheers

Indeed you are a very fortunate person to own two of the most sort after Aussie Muscle cars. The envy of most I'm sure (ricer lovers excluded).

Would have been nice if you resized them so we don't have to scroll the screen acrosss as it makes it harder to truly appriciate them and the quailty of the photo's would more than likly look better if they were reduced.
Just a bit a of a pet hate of mine. Don't take it the wrong way

well thats a good way to get goose bumps..

Nice rides..

Now i know almost everyone would want to ask you Mondie as i know iv always wanted to ask someone thats actualy owned both them cars, wich car would be the dominent in a street grudge mach, say the 2 cars were to go head to head in a wild street race from zero to top rpm in top gear...wich of the 2 would be the champ..

The good old FORD Vs HOLDEN argument lol..

Very nice mate..

Hi John,

The HO would cane a standard A9X but given that my A9X has obviously had a cam and whatever else earlier in its life it goes pretty well and keeps up OK. The HO doesnt make all its power until 4k+ and since its the original unopened engine l tend not to rev it too hard so miss out on some of its performance. It still feels like a monster of a car to drive and in 1971 l cant imagine how special it must have felt. To put it in perspective, when the P3 was released with 380hp the stockie Falcon had 130hp.

So to answer your question the win would easily go to the HO until you actually had to brake or go around a corner, then the A9X would come into its own.

Cheers

Hello All,
Im the lucky bastard who gets to drive Mondies old road rockets.
Great fun after getting a few drives of the GTHO and the A9X I can only agree with Mondi re the handerling. The HO has a very strong motor but handles like a been bag and the brakes would fade to zero very soon. But its a GTHO Phase 3 the sound it makes alone is worth the $$$.
The A9X is a go cart in comparison and it was a great day out taking the photos with Mondie, Mondie junior and myself, there where a lot of drivers looking backwards as we drove past the other way.

Yeh mate thats what i thought you would say. The only comparison i have every had is driving my Bro in laws XY GT replica with a 4V clevo running a Viking100H cam and 4spd toploader and 9" 3.5lsd.. Compared that to my L31 M21 stock as a rock SS hatch the 2 cars were both mazing to drive but the GT would take me out every time in a straight line..

Hello again all, as you have all said to Mondie, he is a very lucky man to have these two classics in his back yard. When me and the family are around to have a visit, Mondie will often disappear, and you would find him at the carport just standing there, looking at his two rides. Im sure this behavior will pass in a little while.
I had the GTHO at my place for a while, as Mondie was having his fortress to house the cars built. The drive out to home is 10km or so and as you can guess, I was to drive the GT so with Mondie in his Subaru STI and me in the HO we headed to my place, sitting in that old girl with Mondie up my ass and with his window wound down, the least I could do is let him get a true idea as to what the HO sounded like, so with the 4000RPM as the cut off, we would slow down to 50 KPH and then a quick run to 4000RPM through 2nd 3rd and 4th gears, with the turbo lag in the Subaru and the muscle in the GTHO poor Mondie could only watch his pride and joy disappear down the highwayHarrr Harrr.
Then it was into the shed at home and that was the end of that.

The photo shoot the other day was great, as we where out of town a bit and Mondie bless him, likes to pretend to be a boy racer, so at times but all, to briefly the A9X and the GT would be roaring like they should, we each had young Mondie junior in with us during the day, and even though a long way off his own first drive he knew what it was all about. So there you have it people a hell of a way to kill a Saturday..VB

Very nice indeed

All you need now is a 72 XU-1 in your collection to sit beside the HO, just like Bathurst 72.

Living the dream. congratulations
