I recently bought a UC to get some parts from and I noticed the other day its a 1980 build, I forget the exact month (think its Feb) but I will find out for sure.
This got me thinking I wonder who on these forums has the newest Torana or Sunbird and who has the oldest.

1969 HB :spoton:

But as there are a few other HB owners on here, I'm assuming someone has an older one.

I recently saw a UC Subird with 7/80 build plates and it wasn't sold from the dealer until 7/1981!!

It should be at our club meeting tomorrow night.. another 'budgie into the fold!!

Hi

I have a 5/74 LH that still has mp/h and km/h on spedo face, the older style window writing and has a different front nose panel in that the indicators sit lower than the other LH and Lxs i own.

Looks like so far Flatliner owns the oldest Torana and I own the newest (although Big T and sstorana know people with newer ones)

What's the difference with the window writing? My LH was "modified" a few times before I got it, the sl/r dash was gone, so was the v8. I've never checked the blinker position.

When did they supposedly stop making them? In 1980 Holden were still building cars in 3 states (SA Vic Qld) I'm not sure where the UC was coming from but maybe it lingered on at one plant.

When was the 4 cyl Commodore released? VC wasn't it? Maybe that's why the UCs lingered?
Maybe Toranas went out of production but not Sunbirds? :dontknow:

I THINK it's August, and it said something in a book about stopping earlier than that.

These are the production dates for the following cars;

UC Torana and Sunbird: Mar 1978 to Sep 1980; UC Torana phased out in Mid 1979..
HZ Holden: Oct 1977 to Apr 1980
WB Holden: Apr 1980 to 1984
VB Commodore: Oct 1978 to Mar 1980
VC Commodore: Mar 1980 - Sep 1981
VC 4Cylinder versions were released in Jun 1980..

As you can see, the UC was accompanied by a few others during it's production run..

cheers
Mick

The Blinker in early LHs sit lower and has a slightly different pressing in the steel. As for the glass early LHs use armourfloat glass and later LHs onward use Pilkington ACI. i guess they changed names. Can show with pictures later when i find my camera.

I had a UC Sunbird built in August 1980. I even took a picture of the compliance plate as even back in the late 1980's when I had it I thought it might be one of the last builds. It was an ex-government car.

Yella is March 1974. My indicators don't hang low, but I have the MPH/KMH speedo.
