G'day guys
I want to get my 253 red rebuilt for a bit more power and before anyone says anything about getting a 308 its the original engine so i'm keeping it.
Who here can recommend a good place to go to in perth? either north or south of the river, i just want a good engine.

cheers

I had my 253 done by Mario Favazzo of Favazzo Engine Reconditioners. Good guy, good quality, reasonable price.

Bob Campbell did a 253 for my first LH torana several years ago when he was located in Osborne Park, now located in Malaga. Never had a problem with it and I used to drive it fairly hard, went well, some others that drove the car didn't beleive me that it was 'only' a 253. Bob's son does the spanner work now as well as on Paul Stubber's yellow Camaro race car

I also used Bob for my 355. I had some dramas 18 months after the engine was built & Bob looked after me really well. Sometimes Bob doesent get to oversee as good as he should, if you know what I mean. Try Chevpower also, good blokes & fair pricing.

Will give them both a call tomorrow. Favazzo's got back to me and by the sounds of it they can't really help.
Also i know its hard to answer because theres so much that could be done but how much do you think ill roughly be looking at for a complete rebuild while trying to make a bit more grunt? i was thinking cam, port and polish, good set of pistons etc I'm looking for a reliable streeter. I already have a performer manifold with quaddie.

Con at Balcatta Engine reconditioners has built three forum member engines. I think I speak for all of us that he does a great job.

con seems to be the go! 4.5k roughly for a complete rebuild, new cam, grind the crank, balance etc etc and will do it cheaper coz im not in a rush to get it back.
power figures with all of this anywhere close to 300 horses?? as thats what im chasing, at the flywheel.

Mate you wont be disappointed. 300hp is achieveable, years and years ago back when I still read Street Machine mag, they did something called project little league. They built a 253 that made 334hp if I remember correctly, and something I clearly remember, it made better figures with the standard holden intake rather than an Edelbrock. It's a case of matching components from the beginning, ie: heads, cam, inlet/exhaust manifolds and carb. Let Con know what you want, he'll talk you through it.

If you can hand over a stock 253 plus 4.5 K and get a completely rebuilt 300 hp engine then I will be impressed.

I'll throw my support behind Con aswell. His daughter races a super sedan and that revs hard and fast with out a drama, and his niece (whos a hottie)is about to start racing a modified dragster with an engine built by him. so he knows what he's doing.
