I own a 1978 UC hatch that recently became "involved" with a tree, and I'm looking for some parts for the front end (bumper, bonnet, etc) and especially a driver's side 1/4 panel. Anybody know where I may find these? Preferably in Victoria.

fronts easy same as 4 door, I have lost count the number of times i have seen UC 1/4's on ebay for sale. If you get stuck I know a tyre shop in qld where the owner has a nos 1/4. Chopper may have some of the bits you need.

Holcar in lilydale are good for front panels on LH/LX. Haven't looked for UC panels there before but a phone call would fix that problem. Here are the details if you need 'em.

Thanks guys. I rang HOLOCAR and he said he didn't have any. In fact, he'd gotten 3 calls yesterday about a UC hatch 1/4 panel. Everybody in the SE suburbs must have crashed their UC's over easter! He referred me to Oldies (?) in Moorabbin, but I can't find anyplace that has it. Maybe it's time I just let my baby die. It's kinda losing it's battle with rust anyways.

Anyone want any parts before I take it to a wrecker?

I'm no insurance estimator but I am guessing about $4-5000 to fix all that if you took it to a shop..and you are gunna have to unless you have above average skills.

If you take it to the wreckers you will get maybe $300

If you sell it to the members here or ebay it

I reckon $500 as a whole car or

$300 for doors
$200 for mags
$100 for hatch
$100 for glass
$100 for seats
$100 for engine and box
$50 diff
$50 front end
$50 rear bumper (if straight)
$30 bobtail
$30 dash (if not cracked)

Its just a heap of work pulling it all apart and you get left with a shell that doesn't move.

Leithalb!!! why replace the quarter?

I think Chopper has a couple of UC quarters,
at least I know he has LX ones, which could be easily cut at the rear.

Your quarter is fixable mate.

Mine was pushed in about 6 inches right on the tail light (LX)
and I have almost got it straight in bare metal. Only needs a little
filler and primer now. (used pine log, rubber mallet, proper hammer & dolly)

Your other bits shouldn't be too hard to find.

Have a go. Doing it yourself will save a heap. Get it to a rreasonable stage and
then let a pro do it if necessary, but do the grunt work yourself.

Oh - sorry to hear about the prang! Hope you and anyone in the tree are OK!

Cheers, Leakey

I think I have a head light and maybe an indicator. I could probably repair the quarter in a weekend but would have to see it first. PM me if you are interested.

Thanks for the support guys. I really want to keep it, but it's a matter of economics at the moment. @FastEHHolden: You're spot on. My local panel beater quoted me about $5000.

I'm really unsure what to do. Get rid of it, or put it away for a while and wait for some other poor bugger to write off a UC hatch and scavenge the bits.

Let me know how much you want for the hatch. Alternatively, I can have a R/H UC hatch 1/4 panel on your doorstep Saturday morning.

I can also arrange any other front bits you need. Have them all sitting in the garage. I have a 1 tonne van, so delivery is no problem.

I went and had a look at Leith's Torry 2 weekends ago (cost me a fortune cos the Missus came and wanted to look at every antique/bric-a-brack/curio shop between Blackburn and Cockatoo via Monbulk Olinda Lilydale on the way home)(but I love her) and it arrived here yesterday (Saturday) on a flat tow about 1pm. I did nothing but put the battery on charge overnight so it would drive. Got started on it 1pm today (Sunday) Note the cross flow radiator and expansion bottle location.

Thanks but Leith supplied the bonnet (off a forum member?) and a grill. This is low budget and has other issues in the quarter so no quarter required at this point. Quick fix and back on the road A.S.A.P, no paint just u/coat.

Chopper, might need a L/H park/ind. lamp as I have 2 but they are both r/h, do you have one?

He will be needing a front bar too later.

I have several, but I'm not sure how many of them would pass RWC. Shall check on the weekend. Or possibly I will bring over my assortment and let you have a look.

The headlight adjusting screws and plastic inserts I won't have. I'll be working tomorrow morning, so once I've finished, I'll give you a call and come over with my box of lenses. Rad overflow I should have, but I'll actually have to have a look to double check.

Tonights update. Spent an hour here and there this week (after work) tiding up the front(getting the lines right)(this has been hit in the L/F before) ready for finishing and undercoat. Last night removed the interior trim from the R/R quarter area. Tonight got the window frame, wheel arch, sill area, door (was twisted) and door frame in the "ballpark" while still intact then cut out the big crease. Tomorrow will be tappy tappy knock knock bang bang pull pull relieve relieve (cos I now have access) then weld in a patch, probably from the old bonnet (good colour match :spoton: ) Note: The quarter is full of bog too. Formwork and Readymix?
