hey so I just picked up a blue 3.3 for my UC instead of my 186, right now its all stock apart from a S/b chev fuel pump, holley 390 carb and extrators. I have not put it in yet and I was wondering what the max rpm you can pull on all stock internals ( no cam mods etc) with out doing damage.

I am hoping to run it at the drags in a few weeks, the car has a sunburn diff and a four speed box if it make a differnce

cheers guys

also I was told that a early 80's falcon LSD diff head will bolt right into a sunbird diff is this ture

with std cam it will make peak power around 3900rpm... you could rev it harder but what's the point?

Heh, yeah, take it no further than 4500rpm - its pointless going above!

Keith

P.S. The standard internals are pretty strong, get yourself a bigger camshaft and keep the rest how it is and you may see 6000rpm!!

186 cam won't fit in a 202, unless it's been relieved between the lobes. Otherwise the conrods hit the cam. Even if it was relieved, you would need to check what size cam bearings are needed. If the 186 cam needs stock size and the Blue 202 has undersize bearings...

chopper i think your refering to the stroker cranks that you need to relive between the lobes on the cam
the fitting of stock 186 cams into stock 202s used to be common as that made them more economical

A stock 186 cam is made on a round shaft, a stock 202 cam is not.
Most of the aftermarket cams I have seen are either tha same as 202 cams or are small round shafts..I have never seen an aftermarket cam that is the same size as a stock 186 cam...all aftermarket cams should fit in a 202.

with a 390 on a stock head and stock cam it will wind out to 6000 rpm...it just feels bad doing it cos it doesn't pull well..feels like you are wringing its neck.
You can fit a YT head and run a stock cam and you end up with a gr8 every day car.

the q asked was does a stock 186 cam fit a 202
answer is yes but what only with a stock crank i'm unsure about with the blue crank and i know it won't fit with the ford 221 stroker crank
and fastehholden you are right the 202 and aftermarket cams do have the relief cut butween the lobes

a stock 186 cam won't fit a 202...the rod bolts will strike it..red, blue or black.

In my past experience - a stock 186 cam DOES fit into a 202 with no worries. Red 186 cam into Red 202 motor (both stock), oh and one response from me too - but WHY a smaller cam??!!

keith the 186 cam makes the 202 a much more economical motor to run and i recon they run better

I wouldnt doubt the economy improvement!

Each to their own ay! Im not a fan of standard camshafts unfortunately! But if anyone wishes to put a 186 cam into a 202, it can be done safely!

Me - i like em to growl!!
