Is there anything special about red 6 cylinder flywheel bolts can i buy them from a bolt shop? would getting some high tensile 3/8unf bolts be fine?
Yes, flywheel bolts are special. Apart from the very high tensile strength material the hex head is grooved in a way that evenly distributes the forces/stresses. I use ARP p/n 206-2802; they're easily available. Normal grade 8's might do the job in a standard engine (for a while at least) but I wouldn't push my luck with anything that revs a bit. Socket heads (like unbrakos) are higher tensile than grade 8 but are also more brittle so again would be risky with anything other than granny's church car..

Anyway, I'm yet to have any flywheels or bolts loosen with the ARP's so I'll keep on using them..

Mate if it makes you feel better , I have had red (street)sixes , XU1 specs or better for over thirty five years ,with no problems using GMH bolts.Cheers guys will suss out those arp bolts dont think i need 7/16 its not a big reving engine just a daily mild 186 and m20 4 speed better off being safe dont think having a flywheel come thru the floor would be fun
