I think the real answer is for rares to remake the door rubbers hollow like all the late model stuff.
As for things to make the doors shut easier? FIIK?
My XU-1 has been sittin' in the shed with new door rubbers and the doors shut tight for 18months...
THEY ARE STILL A BITCH TO CLOSE AND MUST BE SLAMMED.. EVEN WITH NO GLASS IN THE CAR!
And before anyone screams panel alignment.... Don't... that was taken care of . my beater spent 200 hours on each side of the car...
THE RUBBERS ARE SHIT!
While Im bitchin'....
Rares sell external door weather strips but don't sell the clips that hold them on???
Go figure that one! The clips rust out long before the weather stips themselves...
SOMEONES NOT LISTENING I THINK....

Cheers Greg..

Is it just the rarespares rubbers or are they all like that ?

Thats why when you look at a lc and lj's with new door rubers they are dinted on the top of the door handles from slaming the doors. Something you don't want after spending a lot of time and money on panel and spray work..

My cousin got EH door rubbers from rarespares and his doors were very hard to shut as well.

I had to make clips for the exterior wetherstrips out of those self tapper tags you can get. I just snapped off the part that was sticking out and hammered them flat. They worked out in the end. The interior 1s are harder. I had to scrounge around at the wreckers for those. The old mans 66 stang has similar felt strips so Id assume you could get them from a mustang spares company but I had a quick look on the net and It was all 2 hard. The rares bailey channel isnt much better. The window barley winds up. Or the 1/4 window rubber. Wouldnt it be nice if the replacement parts you bought were original replacements.
For the old mans Stang you can get ANYTHING and I mean everything. You should see the catalogue. You can literally build a new stang from scratch

My passenger fitted ok, the drivers was a bitch, I had to cut them, remove 2 inches then stitch them back together and glue them. They are all the same. I got the ones off ebay, not Rarespares, think the guy is in Penrith NSW. I made up clips for the top of door weathershields, never again! The quarter wind rubbers pop out everythime I open them..I dont open them any more. The Mustang stuff is perfect, I had a 70 soft top and you can buy any part that fits perfect everytime.

Must be hard for Rare's to please everybody (although I'll admit the door rubbers are something I'll get elsewhere!). Most of the little bits & pieces are good - some of the ones for toranas I've bought and am happy with recently are the numberplate lens for LH/LX/UC, tailights for LX (are they NOS from GM though?), the doortrim clips and pedal rubbers too...

Dont get me wrong , its great that there is a company out there making parts but some of it is just crap. I mean the GTR badges are the wromg seize wromg colour and the pins are in the wrong spot. Youve got to admit that is poor form. We buy it because thats all there is. Id be happy to pay double the price of every item if it fitted perfectly.
Anyhow any more suggestions on the rubbers

I may be wrong here but arent rares the only ones that make door rubbers and the rest just re-package em?
Why arent rare spares listening to the feedback about these items? isnt it just as easy to make the stuff right as it is to make it wrong?

^ Apparently but if that's true I don't know where the new hollow door seals originate from - they can't all be unopened ones from ages ago. I thought Scott's or Bill Thompson have a hollow type door seal.

Ahhh never heard there were hollow ones avail, can anyone verify this as fact, ie, they have them?
I cant stand the thought of shelling out for expensive door seals that don`t work, or denting my doors slamming them shut!

I have seen the hollow door rubber for sale on the roll you could buy it per metre at Rare Spares . When i worked at Rare Spares years ago the door rubbers were always an issue ,the rubber compound was just too hard and doors were hard to close and the old Armorall soaking trick just does not work. And yes you are right the GTR badges are questionable too ,i purchased one for the grill of my GTR (told that they were all the same ) the pins were too long and had no clips not even a thread on the pins and attempting to put a thread on they broke off the badge being softer than the original GTR metal badge. With some of the items for sale at Rares not being cheap and the cost of restoring a classic car you would expect them to be right. On the other hand there is probably the good stuff they do sell.
