Hey guys, Got a problem when driving and sometimes when sitting still, I push the pedal down and it doesn't return , but if i pull the pedal back the brakes release. It doesn't seem to do it at higher speeds but is bad at low speeds, if i slow down to go up the driveway it will just stop and it wont release until i pull the pedal back out.

Heres my brake setup - LX disks and calipers on the front, 60/40 splitter, standard rear drum

I thought at first I must have left the sring off the top of the pedal as thats the feeling, but its on there.

The car has been sitting for about 6 months, and the master cylinder (LX Disk Front) was leaking out the rear seal so i replaced it with one off a 253 HQ ute with disk brake front, so I thought it would work, Is this the reason???? I had to adjust the rod on the booster out a little more for the master cylinder.

While it was sitting i pulled the rear drums apart competely and cleaned them up, I pulled the rear wheel cylinders apart to check the seals and cleaned them up, seals were all like new so i put them back together. If I have adjusted the rear drums too much could they grab at low speed. I dont think I have but will check....

I haven't had a chance to check over the car to see what is sticking whether it be just rear, just front or both. Just thought i'd ask and see if anyone has anything particular top look for...

Im leaning a bit toward the master cylinder for some reason, as thats all that i have really changed...

Any Ideas???

Cheers

Les

The master cylinder could cause the problem. It could have an internal leak, causing brake fluid to go past the internal seals from the front to the back of the master cylinder. First thing I would do is to bleed all the brakes. It's the cheapest job and it's something that needs doing from time to time.

if the hq was sitting for a long time could be the piston is sticking in the bore of the m/cyl. if its 2nd hand it will probably start leaking when you bleed it as the long stroke will stir up the shite that grows in them and stuff the seals up. should buy new and NOT use 2nd hand brake hyd as brakes or lack of them can kill.

All Fixed, all four wheels were locking on so I put it down to one thing, Master. Changed it with another, that I pulled apart and checked out then put back together, bled, and bolted up then bled all wheels. Now she's fine.

Sorry guys but some of us have no choice other than to use second hand parts from time to time, although it is on my list it's not possible ATM. Second hand parts should only be used if they are checked out prior to application as not all second hand parts are worn or stuffed, and I'd be stuffed if I bought everything new, Building a car would not be an option.

Thanks for the help guys,

Cheers

Les
