Do you mean removing the rain channels along the roof line?

The cars look great with them removed but they are not too practical esp when caught in the rain and you get a wet arse getting in and out due to no gutter lol

ok, just had to ask,
you want to remove the section of steel along the roof line,
one purpose of this is the rain channel,
the other being the join that holds the roof skin to the rest of the body,
as the roof skin is folded into the channel and spot welded along the length of the channel.
Just interested to know why?

I would guess to make the car look better - the smoother the better. I am planning on doing this to mine as well.

The only thing I'm thinking that hasn't been mentioned is that it might really show off poor panel gaps where the top of the door frames meet the area that used to be the gutter. You would probably have to do a fair bit of work to actually make that look nice, I reckon the tolerance would probably be pretty bad on most cars, but you don't notice it much with the gutter there

A really good way to destroy the roof would be to do this, as mentioned the roof is attached along the gutters, it's rolled on and spot welded.

Totally agree RedA9X,
that amount of work needed to reattach the roof skin would be lots,
It may look different but be very difficult,
and may breach ARD requirements for the car.

the famous pioneer xa coupe that won summernats had this done many moons ago, big job.
if this is what you want, best to do it in say 100-200mm space length's so you
dont move the roof skin out of alignment. they used a 3-5mm rod i think between
the roof skin and the main body channel. than welded it all in and grind and
file back "walla" smooth also flush mounted all the glass too, similar look of a
vn vp commodore glass with a thin rubber strip.
if you chase a copy of the mag up there are some detailed pics in it.
i personally would never go down this road myself but different is a choice.

Thanks for all the replies, mostly just getting ideas. Will be cleaning up the engine bay a fair bit, shaving door locks and antenna but looks like removing the rain channels will be too much effort and frOck an already good panel.
