I think 225/50/15 tyres might just be legal on 8" rims? Am I right?
If they are legal do they look ok when looking at the wall to rim fitment?

Cheers

Ideal size for a 7" rim is 215 so I can't see a problem with 225's on 8". I actually have 215's on my 17"x8" rear rims, the side walls are on a bit of lean but they look ok... Would look better with 225's or 235's though.
I dunno what the rules are in ACT but in QLD the tyre width can't be more than 30% greater than standard and rolling diameter has to be within 15mm of standard. Therefore, on my car, in QLD, legally, I can go to a maximum of 225/40/17.

Thanks mate, I thought it was ok just looking for some form of confirmation :)
Its not my preferred choice by any means but with the brand I might be using in the future I am size limited :)

They're legal and they look good on an 8 inch rim (you wouldn't want any smaller on them).

If you run a 50 series tyre on the front, then I'd recommend a 50 series tyres on the back.

I run 225/50/15 on an 8" rim on the front and 265/50/15 on a 10" rim on the rear.

The other factors to consider are ground clearance for your exhaust system, driveway etc

Mick.

Yeah they are perfect fitment for the look and the drive quality IMO.

The typical fitment that people do on here I reckon involves too much tyre and not enough wheel, makes the tyres all sloppy laterally. Might make it better for drag racing? lol

I run 225/60/R13s on 13x8s (rear)

Another yes, good match in terms of width and tyre shape. I have 225/50s on 15x7 fronts at present, they look better on the 15x8s

The rim calculators specify 6.0 - 7.5 for a 225/50/15.

An 8.0" rim will still be within Tyre & Rim Association of Australia specifications however if the tyre manufacturer has specified a maximum rim size of 7.5" then you would need to check if it is legal in your state.

^ Seriously? They're starting to hang over on a 7" wheel, 6" would be awful and much less safe than 8"

225/50/15 Toyo T1R
Test Rim 7.0
Approved rim widths 6.0 - 8.0

Proxes T1R.pdf

Typically the range is 1.5" which is why the rim calculator specifies 6.0 - 7.5

Thanks guys, that info is great and will do nicely :) Now I need to get those rims and once I have them talk to the tyre co that wants to supply my tyres :)

They saw my car in a mag and rang me (unsolicited) and offered their services.

Cheers

I have 225/50/15 on my 8" front wheels. My old VR SS had the HSV optioned wheels which were 16x8" and the factory fit tyres were 225/50/16, so if the factory fits that size I'm sure it's legal
