The handbrake on 3 of my UC's works fine and requires only light effort.
One unfortunately requires brute strength to have it hold the car on a hill, has been like that since Ive owned it, but getting worse. Did ask once when having some work done on the brakes, for them to have a look at it, was told.....yeh its fine.....they're all like that......lahdedah......
Havent as yet tried anything to correct it myself and was wondering what would be the key things to be looking at.
The lever is heavy to apply all the way from its rest position,(whereas the others are all light) perhaps some cable friction somewhere?
All suggestions welcome. (drum rears)
Thanks.

Sounds like 1 of the 2 cables is seized. More effort is needed on the handle if only one side is working. Look for perished rubber boots on ends of cables and kinks in outer cable.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!

pull the cables out and soak them in diesel or whatever you want...free them up and refit...if the stay solid you are off to the wreckers.

Have you replaced the rear shoes at all? Maybe they were not radius ground to the drum size?
