Unsure if this is right thread for this anyway...last week had ramjet cold air fitted to my ss ute as well as putting it on the dyno after i picked it up the fuel guage has been reading out considerably and was wondering if there is anything in the tune that may have affected this given that it worked fine beforehand. Hopefully someone can help me out. cheers

G/day Drav01
Bit of a sticky one but I can only suggest that if they had to change the engine mapping on the engine computer when they fitted the cold air intake maybe they unintentionally/unknowingly did something that affected the software for the fuel gauge.
Best advice I can give is take the car to a Holden dealer and have them check/update/reload the fuel gauge software.
Check first that all sensor leads on engine components (esp the air flow sensor seeing as they were working on the air box) are properly connected, but in theory they shouldn't affect the fuel gauge only the operation of the engine.
Not much else I can say except that the fuel gauge in my VZ S Tonner has never worked properly/consistently from day one and I know of others with VZ's (exec's included) that have had the same issue as mine. GMH did release revised software that the dealer downloaded to my VZ but it only made a minor improvement.
Cheers
Dave

From memory the fix is to flash program the ECU which should recalibrate the fuel gauge. This may also wipe any changes made by your dyno guy.
Also- how do you know it's reading incorrectly?
If the 'distance to empty' seems too low for the amount of fuel in the tank, it could just be the computer estimating your NOW higher fuel consumption to do with your new tune.
If the computer was reprogrammed just before or during being pushed hard on the dyno the computer will presume your going to be thrashing the crap out of it and estimate you wont get far if you drive like that- and read low 'to empty'.

Find out from who did the work on your ute, what they did regarding any engine management changes.

Its reading incorrectly because when i put $20 in it from just about empty the other day it come up to 3/4 of a tank...also so far this week I've done 300km on this tank and still reading full usually would be around 1/2 to just under. The last tank i filled i got to 500kms with it reading 1/2 tank then pretty much took a dive for empty and almost got stranded within 30kms. They reckon it had nothing to do with them just seems a bit of a coincidence that after they did dyno work it stops working correctly. Fuel economy so far not much better if better at all which also seems a bit odd...

I'll ask my mate if he's had any problems with his VZ. He's had a few, even got the bottom end rebuilt before it got to 50k!
Could even be a piece of crap on the tank sender unit?

Put the full jerry can in the boot, ignored the gauge and drove until the consumption computer said I had used 60L. Filled up and 60L went in.
Off to the holden dealer retards.
Car given the flash upgrade for the apparent known fault- no difference.
Car left for diagnostic purposes - MRA (fuel sender unit) determined to be at fault.
Replaced- no difference!
Spastics finally check that gauge is calibrated for monaro, not sedan- instant one click fix.
I suspect you may also have your gauge now calibrated for the wrong tank type.
Needless to say I didnt pay for their fine efforts but it cost me time and foregone earnings which I will of course never recoup.
