Just wondering if anyone here has tried using the calipers off a 4 cyl VB/VC Commo? I'm pretty sure the 4 pot Commo had 13" rims so would that mean they'll fit inside the LJ's rims? I believe the pad surface area on these is greater than the original LJ ones.

The calipers from a 4 cyl VC/VH Commodore are virtually the same as the late ( 6/79 on ) UC alloy calipers. So gat a pair of LH - UC stubs, discs and the afore mentioned calipers. They use the same pads and rebuild kits as the VB - VS ( NOT HSV ) front calipers. So you get a large range of pads to use, from stock to race. Different front brake hoses would also be needed, as the fitting onto the caliper is totally different.

All true

However the LC LJ 2 pot opposing caliper is a better caliper and I'd advise sticking with that

I have LH discs and UC girlock calipers on my LC and they work nicely.

i have a 4door LC with four wheel drums and no booster. if i changed the front drums to LH discs and UC calipers, would it be possible to add a remote brake booster and have it all good to go? Obviously I'd have to displace the braking load onto the front so I don't go through the windscreen on brake application.

I'm running Slotted XU-1 Discs on the front (with the spacers) and the standard drums on the back with the standard booster (hopefully will have an XU-1 Booster soon) and it stops real good.

If the brakes arn't adjusted properly you will get really poor braking. Or if your rear wheel cylinders are shot like mine were

What Dattoman is inferring if I may, is the LC/J Girlings apply equal pressure on 2 fronts, i.e. from both sides equally, the LH ones apply one point of pressure and pulls the other one onto the disc. The former has been proven to be a better option in efficient braking terms.
(I surprise myself sometimes Neil!)

so if i were to update my brakes from four wheel drums, my best bet is to fit the lc/lj brake booster, rather than a remote one. But with the front discs, I've found it hard to find lc/lj discs. so, to repeat a dumb question: would lh/lx discs fit if I came across a good set at a wrecker?

Don't forget that you need the Disc stub axels to do a drum front to disc front conversion on a LC/J.

For Naths conversion i managed to find a complete front end (stub axles, calipers, discs and hubs) at a wreakers. In the end he got new slotted discs, and the car stops good now.

Also isn't LH/X/UC discs the same dimentions as the XU-1s?

Same dimensions but different discs
You can't use LC-J calipers on LH discs
