hey guys just a quick q.on my calais with a 5ltr.a 2 mth old rad shit itsself last week so under warranty got a new 1 and fitted it last thurs.in the past week sometimes when its hot and you turn it off,the overflow bottle overflows and comes out the over flow hose onto the ground green and very foamy.

today my rad was empty and car got pretty hot.i just filled it up then.nothing appears to be leaking so what would cause this?new rad with new cap.and water pump near new.its on gas and my gas converter froze today which im guessin is cause of lack of coolant!

cheers in advance

Is it a V8 or a V6 radiator cap? V6's run higher pressure, so if you run one of them, it just pumps water out of the radiator. V6 runs 150 psi, and I think V8 is only about 115psi. Also is it a recovery type cap?

I have seen alot of ill fitting caps lately, sounds like the cap is not seating correctly, try and wiggle the top, if it is only loose you can crimp it up with pliers or try a spare cap (or a mates one)

Is it bled correctly??I would make sure thats right first by bleeding through the heater hose joiner on the passengers side first and also the gas convertor.

V6 are 20 psi the V8 are 15 psi.

It hasn't blown a head gasket has it?
Here's something you may want to check too. VR VS had a bad habit of throwing fan belts, just double check it hasn't thrown the one on the water pump. Mine did it about 4 times in the time I had it and it would have the same symptoms, water bubbling out the overflow and getting hot. What surprised me was the charge light never came on. The first time it did it the car was almost new, it got hot I pulled over had a basic look called the NRMA and while I was talking to the guy I noticed one belt missing. It wasn't hard to miss since they ran 3 belts. I questioned this with Holden at the time and they said it was a common problem.
