Hey all got this from fastlane interesting read this guy knows a fair bit on xu1,s anyone else shed any light on what he is talking about??? and before i get the if its not in the 150 list blah blah blah it seems there is a lot of info to add to these sorts of claims what do you guys think i have always been fascinated buy the 150 0nly number!!

Hi all,
for those with late 72 and 1973 XU-1's this book in its first couple of print runs since 1984 is in need of the following admendments;

late 72 and all of 1973 XU-1's and 1974 GTR's do not have their Vin information included.

Instead of 150 1973 XU-1's there were over 800.

There were three August 73 model XU-1's;

1. abt 4th to 9th models without Bathurst specs. prior to change over engine.

2. abt 4th to 9th and 14th to 22nd with Bathurst specs, as quoted in the Holden parts books.

3. 23rd August on engine listed XU-1's which by omission leaves out above cars included in the official Holden Parts books.

Not all Bathurst 73 XU-1 engines were in a single batch 16 G 3 as there are at least two seperate cast batches and perhaps more.

There were 3 or 4 different NP Blocks ( not engines ) as they were from different sources within Holden and they had to cater for different XU-1 models, then there was the mid 1974 XU-1 engine block which was a further development of the Aug 73 engines.

There will be more, so if you are planning to restore a 1973 XU-1 be aware that there are several models, both before and after Aug 1973.

Mike

G/day meanmachine72

I think the guy might be smoking something he shouldn't or he is interpreting information differently to everyone else here.

I did find 2 Adelaide GTR's completed in January 1974 in the Warranty Service History list.
I believe he might be talking about NP 202 replacement blocks cast in 1974 not JP's. Don't know what he means by further developments though as GMH and the HDT team would have been focused on development of the new V8 LH Torana.
As for three different model 1973 Bathurst XU-1's maybe he is referring to the homologations.
He is referring to the FIV book.
800 '73 XU-1's, I thought there was only around 700 produced. Ahhhh now I get it, all the XU-1's that didn't have their VIN numbers recorded are the dodgy ones that were made from S models and GTR's into XU-1's and now they've morphed into Bathurst models so worth a lot more and can't be disproved as their nimbers were never recorded. Me thinks someone out there must have been busy making fake Vin, body and compliance plates.

I must say it was interesting reading more of Mikes' postings on that other forum. Didn't learn anything worth learning or didn't already know for myself or from you guys here.

Cheers
Dave.

hi dave...at first i thought this was gee up..
interested that you found 2 GTRs in 1974, may have to have
another look and eat my words if correct

Bullitljv8... daneo on here has a 7/73 car that has 3 homologations
out of the 6 that made the magic 151 list..so what would we call danes car?? 1/2 a bathust special car??? :dontknow:
iam with bruce (flyagainxu-1) and agree that there could be 288 bathurst cars
out there with various amount of bathurst homologations on them, there will be forever debate
on this issue ,but one thing is for sure they were all "special cars"...

Hi

A little 'off topic' - but there were 6 GTRs completed in 1974 (1 Bris and 5 Adelaide). There were all completed weeks later than their siblings (all around the same PSNs). Perhaps they were waiting for parts to arrive?. I think that these 6 GTRs would almost certainly have 1973 ADR tags.

Cheers

probably in early 74 they still played on the side of caution in case the slr wasnt ready in time.so there could well be a few around.its just a shame that everybody took all this sort of thing for granted back then.
