Are there any radiators from othercars that are suitable for an upgrade
ie: geometry, pipes line up, can be bolted in with little or no mods?

Sorry if this has already been covered, couldn't find anything with a search

Cheers

well if you reverse the inlet and outlet pipes
a 3 core v8 radatior bolts straight in
(well they do in the h series)

Small block Chevs have the same inlet/outlet orientation, so look for H series Holdens that had a SBC, the rad out of them should come close to fitting, may require holes re drilled and a bit of a trim but no big deal.

Cheers.

Hold on a sec, bomber has just suggested the same radiator as you but bombers suggestion needs no modification.

IMO convert a 6cyl crossflow from WB or early commodore to fit or as bomber suggested, 2 or 3 core chev radiator with no mods for the win.

There are two very common upgrades Im aware of which would be available at most radiator suppliers. You can get a 6cyl 3 core in the same overall package size as the standard 2 core which will improve things, or there is the larger v8 style 3 core in the chev hose config which will do a better job. The latter were standard equipment on 6cyl toranas with fact air and also were known as the HZ taxi pack radiator, not two sure if taxis were ever fitted with them as standard though.

you could fit crossflow units in from other types, however, the torana radiator opening will achieve maximum core exposure with a vertical flow setup.

Yeah years ago radiator shops called these Heavy Duty 3 core radiators by there OEM optioned names but I think these days they are commonly known as chevy as in the standard radiator for HQ Statesman and Monaro.
There are, as TB eludes to, the skinny three core, which is the same thickness as a standard two core radiator and there is the three core with the larger (wider) tanks and side bands to suit, they are close to an inch thicker.
If you were going to the extent of fitting such a large copper radiator I would be looking at investing in an alloy radiator just two cores thick as alto the third row does add some cooling advantage at speed the extra thickness can actually hinder air flow negating any benefit.
Alloy two core crossflow to suit second gen commodore holden V8 is a good choice.
I would not like to debate the benefit of the slight extra fin area exposed from a conventional radiator compared to the benefit of cross flow but if it fitted in with all the area exposed and it is designed for a bigger car with more load then it has to be better plus the advantage of cross flow having the cap on the low pressure side.

Narrow tank 3 rows are still available new

You can also till buy the large tank three row to suit hq-hz 6 cyl new.Same fitting configoration but smaller fitting than the chev.

+1 for the HQ 3 core radiator i just put one in my uc only mods are trimming the shroud mounts down and drilling new bottom holes hoses still line up and clears a viscous clutch fan by about 20mm
