LJ 4 banger woohoo. They had a different front to the sixes, it's not an LC front. Looks in pretty good nick mate.

Woohoo indeed I'm so happy. Thanks so much for the replies- I thought it must be that simple but just couldn't find anything..
First ever car I looked at was a UC and my dad hated it (it was a horribly untidy, half done up piece of crap) so i never got one.
I got this for what I think was a reasonable price though and I'm the second owner. The lady who owned it passed away and it was left to a bloke who sold it straight off- Not a car person.
Always garaged, and still has a blanket in the back seat and her umbrella.

My last car was a super original FC, which I recently sold because I was just bored of it being too 'nice'.

So... I want to do this one up. Any suggestions on how I could toughen up the engine? (What to put into it but I'm not rich)

Nice one! Yeah you managed to find a stub-nosed LJ 2-door, in what looks like awesome condition.

My recommendation for performance would be a stupidly short diff ratio and an L-series Nissan motor with two Webers hanging off the side of it, or a Toyota 4Axx, Mitsubishi Astron, Nissan SRxx, FJxx, CAxx etc, or anything more modern like a 3S Toyota motor. There are plenty of good things around that don't cost a lot because the vehicles they were put into just fall apart and get thrown away.

What he ^^^ and he ^^ said.

Nissan SR20 - you can get a kit off the shelf for a gemini that will fit it with very little modification.
Old Toyota motors (find a corona hehehe) fit these and HBs nicely.

Both Ni-is-san and Toy-o-Ta will take to a turbo on a stock engine very well.

Thanks everyone for the replies again:)

I was thinking a CA 18 but everyone I have called so far says it's too hard and the only thing that'd fit is a "Starfire?" or something like that. That and they couldn't be bothered.. I don't need it to be a super-car, I just want it to flick out a bit!

Anyone know of anyone good who does conversions in Sydney? Preferably around the castle hill area?

The starfire is the 4 banger that was in the LX/UC Sunbirds, though the UC had the opel 1900 as well. Not sure about the LX.

I'm sure you could do better than a misfire conversion. :P

Mate a little turbo on a Starfire motor would do plenty as well. Basically you need to figure out how much power/torque you really want/need, what kind of rear end gears you can get (i.e. if you put a B18 motor in it then the 3.9 banjo rear end will not be short enough!), and you will probably find that nearly any motor you can find in Australia for $SFA will provide plenty of punch. Then you can work on what actually has a good manual RWD gearbox available, with decent clutch setups etc, and figure out what will fit and has an acceptable weight and so on.

Haha yeah The thought has crossed my mind, but I had an FC that was copletely original until just about 3 weeks ago. It was nice and kept its value, but I really wanted something quicker...

Thinking a starfire now, but also wondering what everyone thinks about doing up the engine that's there? Can I throw some money at it and make it tough? Or is a 1300cc engine just too small to work up?

I don't really think it's enough for the size of car, and nobody (in Australia at least) makes any parts for them. They may be quite an efficient motor but they definitely aren't a strong one compared to the others listed lol.

But with enough money (and boost), anything could go really hard.

Another option is finding an old 4cyl motor that has been tried and proven, that looks kinda similar (i.e. authentic to the car), that has a decent capacity, and putting that in and hotting that up. Building a motor that nobody makes parts for would suck arse

The twin carb Brabham HBs were nice considering what the standard HB engine was like.

Maybe someone has one of those manifolds about.

CRS used to do the SR20 into Gemini kit, but may not do too much now. Maybe see what other four into gemini kits they have.

hey eldanos.
my first car was a 4cyl lj and i tried alot with orig motor but as every one said
no one can get after market parts.
than i put a rodeo g200 with 1600 head/weber etc etc and that went really well
it had gemini 5 speed orig diff(for a while).
looked at turbo set up for g200 but needed diffrant manifold to fit over the guard.
after i FORGOT to check the water and killed it i put a 12a 6port
rotary in it with a 5 speed. it was a big job, had to cut nearly all the tunnel
out to get it line up.than the exaust had heaps of twists and bends what a head ache.
it pulled a wheel stand once so they go really well.
problem is front brakes and the 6cyl stuff does not fit and cant get rego with
the orig brakes.
the hole 4cyl torana thing was a nightmare now thinking about it.
your car looks to good to wreck.
hope i helped.

Hey Billywest, as far as I know there are no conversion kits, but I'm getting a quote and a few suggestions on what motor from people to do the work for me. Reckon I could handle it if it was going to be a simple swap, but not sure that exists with this car:) Thanks for the reply

You'll be getting the BAN email soon Peter :P

There are no kits available FOR HBs or 4pots - you need to slightly modify kits for Geminis. Hope that helps.
