hello all.

I have a completely stock LC (s) 2 door (cream) all numbers match the books, its a one owner 124000 miles with books and a service history with all the first service receipts (some state $3.55 for a full service in 1970..lol) its a 3 speed manual ,138 stock engine original exhaust.. even has the GM option gear lever lock and the sticker from GM on the front quarter window stating its fitted with the gear lever lock, the car has never been painted and just has a few shopping dings as for rust its the best Ive seen, the only rust is in the boot near the tank and the drivers floor (both only very very minor) all the normal spots are solid and very clean, (tyre well etc.) its got all the chrome strips around the bottom of the car still on. interior is fantastic other than the rubber floor carpet being a bit rough its like the day it rolled off the fatory floor, original radio (am) and still the one original speaker on the parcel shelf.

SO.... HERES MY PROBLEM!!

Its really a fantastic clean body and i want to make it V8 (all the right stuff, chassiss kit and full disc brakes etc.) and paint it bright red (inside ,outside and under), mini tub and stretch rear tyre arches, run some 15" GTS monaro rims and leave the interior original (cream) other than a new carpet, underlay and floor shift.

Ive done this same converion 14 years ago (and loved it... then had kids...lol) when the old torana was dime a dozen, but now as im sure you all know.. there a little hard to find and cost a wee bit more now,

My mates and wife say i should just paint the car the original color and leave it 100% stock with just some sprint masters (to stop the hub caps being stolen) and all i can say is OMG..... 3 SPEED 138 and a fookin AM radio...

I would love to here your thoughts on this topic.

or maybe sell this one and find one thats that far from original it dont matter what i do?

cheers
ben

Mild cam/head and a set of triples, you only live once.

mmmmmmmm...........

A hot LC sounds awesome. I am all for it. The work will be worth it. A few nights weeks, months with your head under the bonnet, a few beers, a few bits that dont match up......the same old stuff.

But then it will mean that you have to change your username to HOTLC - are you ready for that transformation.

Having said that, I would probably be inclined to find a LC that is already V8 (if it was me), and closer to what your looking for. And already engineered with most things done. At least mechanically.

It will save you the work, and then you can be driving & enjoying it sooner. And spend less time in the garage and more time on the road.

Sounds like your car may be too good to chop up and modify. If I was looking to go down this path, I wouldnt sell my existing car until I have found a replacement LC V8 , and have that car in my garage.

Good luck, tough decision.

If that is the case then you have my V8 vote.

I think it should be used in whatever form you will enjoy most, you may as well have fun.

Anyway, sounds like by the time your finished, it could be a even more desireable car to most people anyway.

personally i reckon stick a very f@#kin hot 186 or 202 with triples under the bonnet mated to a 4 speed. youd still have a fun quick car but wouldnt have to hack it up to make it all fit. then if you decide to sell it down the track you have the option of putting it all back to dead stock original and sell it as just that.
show us some pics of the car but maybe keep it as original looking as possible for that ultimate sleeper look, but as i said with a real hot 6 in it...just to scare a few young wankers in their hotted up excels.
