well, i did change the oil, and fixed a leak a couple of weeks ago.
heres the thing, i used 80/90 hypoid oil, and now, when driving at low speeds, particulary in reverse, the diff is whining more than my mrs.
got me a tad worried
any ideas/suggestions
it wasnt doing it at all before i changed the oil
the oil that came out was a bit blck, but no metal came with it.
i did let the car sit for 2 weeks (i was out bush) before i drove it, but i dont see this being an issue
any thoughts will be appreciated
cheers

Sounds like it might have had thicker oil in it (possibly due to age.) If you push your car alot and the diff gets hot etc (ie burnouts etc) then I would go for a thicker oil and the pressures in the diff will great alot of heat. heat is a diffs enermy, and as such anything you do to assist it helps.

I usually put a 75/120 (truck gear oil) into my banjos as this allows them to last longer and has a great warm characteristic. Never Broken a bango yet...

Cheers

PS: I would try the above and see, it will only cost you approx $25
PPS: How much oil did you put in?

sounds good, i might try the thicker oil and see what happens
when i filled it, on level ground the oil was level with the filler hole on the back of the diff, same as i filled it last time
thanks oldn
cheers

it seems that the most prominent time is when i have driven home from work, and reversing in the driveway, and if i throw it back to second to keep off the brakes
i give it a little bit of stick, but no burnouts or anything
its due for a service in the next month or so, so i will just change to the thicker oil when im doing everything else
cheers

thanks for the reply olden
i have been looking out for the truck gear oil you mentioned the other week (75/120) and found some 85/140 which obviously is slightly thicker
do you see any problem with this
cheers
