I know you have probably heard this a million times and its probably been done several times as well......

The time has come to get rid of my dodgy flat black 202 powered LH burnout car and create something special, After blowing the 4cyl diff which has lasted some 20 burnouts and the small budget we started on it was time to get a little bit serious....... Especially now there is no girfriend to say NO yer not doin that....

The first plan was to drop a 308 into the LH but after some consideration me and my friend have decided that she is too far gone to create a head turner from what we have.

We then looked at the 4 door LJ that is sitting outside his workshop covered in a tarp thinking that a 308 in the little torry with a mister gasket hanging out of the bonnet could definately become a crowd pleaser.

We are not sure if we are going to buy another one and do the conversion or use the shell we have, but thats the least of the problems... Finding the body should somewhat be reasonably easy, its building one of these in 5 months that could proove to be the difficult part.

Primarily its just going to be to fry some rubber, I would like to be able to run it down the 1/4 eventually.

So really, whats the do's and dont's of doing this ?
What are the little things that I need to know ?
Is there an easy conversion to replace the front drums or did some LJ's come out with discs ?
What colour is going to get the most attention, we are thinking red ?

I did mine in 5 months.
Things needed:
A wife/girlfriend who says spend what you like, get it finished. (You were in serious trouble but are looking good so far.)
A large bank account that will turn into a small one in no time flat.
About 2 years research and book gathering / parts finding/eBay grabbing and asking questions that all need to be stored into a folder so when you stuff up you can pull it out and say, "Oh Shit! I knew I was doing it wrong!" Then re do it right.
About another 9 months to get everything right and working together.

or..

Just buy the green LJ 4 door on eBay for $5000 that the guy has for sale for the last 5 months.
This is the short abridged version,..we do not have time for the long one...I need to fit the baffled XU1 diff, boxed rear arms and V8 tailshaft and yoke to the diff over this weekend.

No heater, 2 speed wipers or retractable seat belts required. Get a different engineer.

in that case, get some V8 engine mounts and drop her in! just run the pipes out through the bonnet or inner guards! I reckon you could do it in a month and have it looking schmick. and dont paint it red, please

Here you go this is a start. When you work out your final budget on the calculator make sure you multiply it by two haha. As for chassis kits etc if your not going to register it then you can stiffen it however you want. If you want to race it at the drags get the rule book and do it right from the very start, no point doing it all twice.

So getting to the basics

To get it in all I need to do is bolt in some V8 engine mounts and it will drop in ? Then I can get to work on wiring and stripping the rest of the car ready to paint if I have time. The main priority will be getting it running so that I can play with it, paint and prettying it up comes later.

Although I have 5 months, I work 2/1 fifo so it makes things difficult, I cant just go out the back and work on the car every night for a month.

I read the other thread regarding modifying everything, I can just take the steering column and stuff out and thats easy done.

I think I have some extractors from a LX 308, will they fit or will I have to use my grinder and welder to make them fit ?

So the next question, anyone have a straight LJ hiding somewhere lic or unlic, doesnt really matter

Hi all,
when you say "V8 engine mounts" what do you mean, like are they just HQ mounts or can you buy specific V8 engine mounts for LC/LJ's?? And where can I get some from??
