I still think you are badly overlooking 1975....

And 1968 and 1969 were the best of all!

I agree Mr 5000, Also Brock and Richo were leading even at the Stops! Plus that 1979 record will always be there, as now the safety cars are apart of the race! From memory thats when my love of A9X's started! Attached File  Small BROCKY.jpg   10.6K   1 downloads

i agree the 75 race was good but i dont think it was to calibre of 79 i liked the big bangers 1-2 finish and when brocky had the mechanic(marty watts?) jumped in the back and kicked the window out haha fantastic bit of pit work lowdnes had to have his window removed for same reason in the betta electrical shitheap and they wouldnt let them just kick it out

Hmmm, where are the other options?

Bobby Morris holding off all comers was THE best of all.

The best win should have been 74. Brock leading by 6 laps at lap 100! If the engine lasted imagine how many laps in front they would have been?

But out of those two up the top the 79 is better. Such a demolition

Yeah but even Brocky said he pushed the engine too hard in 74.

79 was a demolition but 72 was the best cause it was Brock's first, Torana's first and it was totally unexpected.

Brock was the only front runner who could keep his car on the track, but still had to fight all the way.

Gotta love an underdog!

Yep. 1975....

Forget Brock in 1974. Cams officials black flagged Bond for smoke, was a loose sump bolt dripping oil on the extractors. Nothing wrong with the car, just took time to find it. Bond should have won otherwise. Would have meant L34 3 years running 1974-1976. I wonder if for that stupid call if everyone would be stupid over A9X still, when L34 did that with a banjo and an M21?

even though im a big torana man it has to be 72 for mine. becuase unlike 75/ 76 was basicly torana v torana 78 /79 same again torana v torana.(not taking anything away from them though)in 72 he had to fight for it.and what about the ultimate one that got away 1973 which had he won it would have been another fight to the end against a ford

1975/6/7 weren't just no competition. Fords were very competitive. Engines were improved from PhaseIII engines with huge rubber. RPO83 were a very effective race car, as were the XB's that followed (or XA shells were changed into XB's). Only by 1978-9 were the big girls struggling. Anything that could win Bathurst with an aussie 4spd and banjo deserves major credit. LJ did it once, almost twice. LH did it twice, almost three times. Taking nothing away from the A9X, however most were purpose built race cars that were very much removed from their road car bases relative to LJ series production and the L34.

point taken for 77 but 75 and 76 they didnt last even moff who won the 76 atcc didnt last.thats what i meant by torana v torana at the end of the race there was only toranas left it would have been good if they had a ford on their heels

There are no "but what if's" in racing. The end result is what counts. For all those but what if Brock didn't run out of fuel in 73, or blow up in 74 or Johnson didn't hit the rock, the fact is it happened, and if it didn't, something else may have gone wrong anyway.
As for Brock admitting he drove the car too hard in 74, he never ever made that statement. Till the day brock died he always claimed it to be a problem with the webers not being in sync and supplying more fuel on one side to the other. He also believed he should have been allowed to drive the car as he felt from the drivers seat, not be told by Harry to slow down. Harry Firth however always believed Brock pushed the car too hard.
The 72 win was great, some say the 202 over the 351, but the rain is the great equaliser, and horsepower is not so critical in the wet.
79 was a demolition of the oppostition, yet some will say, what opposition was there in 79. Well, there were plenty of other A9X's out there, and Bob Morris had just beaten Brock in the championship, so there was competition.
75 Brock beat everyone as a privateer, in a car that was continued to be used when he left, but it never figured in any results after that. The car was still strong at the end of the race, so another great win.
Bob Morris' win in 76 was a great win over the factory, yet to this day people who were within Holden and HDT claimed he never actually won, despite every other team in pit lanes lap keeping proving that he did.
For me, it's 79. Teams had been running the A9X for 3 years by that stage, so to me, it should have been a more level playing field than in previous years, despite the end result. The fact was HDT were prepared, and had a good car and 2 good drivers, and put them to good use as a team. If you talk about "what if's" what if Harrop's brakes had not failed....?
