Hey Guys,

In my Hq i got a Trimatic behind a 202 on gas, When i first start her up and take it for a drive the gearbox is SHITE! it doesnt get out of first gear, after i drive it for a while and the box warms up it changes gears without a problem.

The Oil is full and brand new, is there a special mix of oil or anything that will help it circulate better when cold?

Thanks in Advance

what fluid did you put in it?
have you tried putting in a little bit more?
is your vacuum hose connected to the gearbox?

And just to ask a silly question - how did you check the fluid level was full? It's important to check it when the auto is up to temp, with the engine running (idling), and trans in 'Park'.

As Makka said - double check your vac line 4 sure too.

Linkages all ok?
Does it rev like in netraul when selected in D when cold?

ANd the best way to tell how fubared a tramatic is when cold.... start it up and select R immediately for it doesnt immediaelty go into reverse then the box is fubar.

makka - I just put normal trans fluid in it, and i did put a little bit more in and it seemed to help it a bit, but im not sure if i should really put anymore in as its already way over the mark.

LXCHEV- i check the fluid when it park and when warm, but also when its cold, and both when running and not running. Might check the vacuum line as well.

Lostit- Linkages i assume are ok..
When i put it into reverse tho, it does take a second or two to kick into reverse... What does Fubar mean? lol

#@$^%& Up Beyond All Recognition... FUBAR...

Doesnt sound good matt! "Normal" transmission fluid should be DextronIII for holden autos.... check that that's what you used!!

Best of luck!

hmm thats not a good thing....

Well once it warms up it shifts straight away, its just when its cold... Maybe just add more fluid lol!

Lucky for me there are about Twenty million 6cyl trimatics around!

Pull the vacuum line off the modulator valve at the transmission. If you find oil in the line, change the modulator valve. Check that the line up to the manifold is clear, blow out with an air gun but disconnect from engine first. Lastly, make sure the vacuum source at the manifold is not carboned up.
Good Luck!

Sounds liek the trans needs a service. The modular valve is either sticky or broken. service teh auto and all should be good.

Cheers

Had the same prob years ago it turned out to be the modulator valve.

You will probably find that the plastic vavle in teh modulator is either broken off or stuck. These are nto that expensive and you get them in a service kit. You will need a pan gasket anyway so the service kit would be the best solution. When was teh last time it was serviced? When was teh last time the box had a fluid change and flush. When was teh diff oil and levels check/changed? These are areas that most cars are neglected. Is why many banjos are wearing out now. Never been cared for.

Cheers
