Hi,
I'm having a issue with my bosch alternator not supplying enough charge.
With the engine running i am only getting 11.9 volts to the battery no difference if the engine is idling or at 3000 revs, I checked this on the back of the alternator and got the same readings.
I swaped the voltage regulator on the back of the alt with one from the wreckers and got the same result.
I believe i should get 13-14 volts is this correct?
Is the alternator itself stuffed?

Alternator not charging.

Back probe the white wire on the plug (sense wire) to see if it equals the battery voltage.

I would hazard a guess and say you dont have a charge light on your dash. The system needs this to charge.

The other thing you should do is to make sure the W/L globe is only 2 watts, the sence wire goes to battery +,it is a small red wire at the battery + terminal on the VP

Had a win!!! I forgot to mention that i am fitting a Dakota Digital dash which has no warning alternator warning light, it just senses system voltage through it's power feed. I looked back to the instructions i was sent by Castlemaine Auto Electrics who did my wiring loom and it says to fit a warning light, i must have ignored this as i probably didn't think it was important. First i tried to fit a led warning light but this made no difference. I then pulled the original warning light bulb and holder out of my original dash, wired it in and, success, 13v at idle 14v at 2500 rpm.
Thank for the help guys.
