Guys, the 9" diff on the LX has no fill plug on it?!= I cant even check the oil level in the diff, its leaked for ages and worried theres bugger all oil in there?.

Is this normal with older 9" diffs??,I dont know what to do with it= take the diff out and get a fill plug put on the diff perhaps?, my brother seems to think there should be a fill plug on the front of the diff if nothing on the rear but I swear there isnt!.Most folk don't believe me but there isnt one on my diff?

Jack it up on an angle and fill it thru an axle tube

But yes... would be an idea to put a fill and a drain plug in

There isn't a [recessed hex head] grub screw on the side of the diff centre housing?

I had some made, & welded it onto my housing.

I still haven't put the drain plug on.

I think they are availiable over the counter. SPW? ect.

I just found this thread that helped http://www.gmh-toran...showtopic=44863 there is indeed a fill plug on the side of my diff!,it was hidden with crap but I cant budge the bastard thing!,ive had the car 11 years and never even looked at the diff oil level.Starting to get a little noisy and suspect my bearing's are buggered due to my stupidity, just noticed theres a (small) allen key grub screw on the bottom of the diff= this must be a drain plug someones fitted?....

Something close to 90 weight

Castrol EPX80/90 or equiv Penrite

I avoid Redline in diffs personally.... issues

As Statler said ^^^^

Where the tail shaft bolts on, look at the carrier and there will be a 1/2 inch or so grub screw

This is your fill point / oil level indicator

I have found these type of centers were come on the XA-XC and Bronco's

If the oil looks fine then save your money for something else. At least one ot the centres I have has no fill plug/level indicator. Use a straight 140 grade oil if you must change it.

I would expect diff oil thats 11 years old to have a foul stench to it and that tells you it's high time to replace it.

Well I was VERY surprised!, Oil does not smell much at all and looks new!??= she seldomly gets driven much at all these days but about 6 years ago was my daily driver for a few years.

Yes ive never changed the oil in the diff in 11 years of owning it, oil "looks" fine but im sure the diff's a little louder these days??.............
