Im weighing up what to do with the ute,

original plan was to find an early trimatic pattern 308 and buy a donor car running a 5L then swap all the injected gear onto the old block so I could retain the supra box that its currently running.

My old man mentioned adapters last night, I know they make them for certain things,

but how good are they and do they make one to go from trimatic to turbo pattern?

what are the downfalls (obviously its going to move the box back in the tunnel??

It'd be easier (and better)to just get the right Supra bellhousing! Some eg CRS are even multifit so they'll fit either Chev or Holden pattern.

You can buy an adapter for Holden to Chev pattern but i've never seen one used on a manual. Most people just get the right bellhousing. Otherwise you'll need a spacer behind the flywheel.

so it seems my original idea is the best then.

Thanks mate.

Changing the bellhousing is the least dicking around. If you change all the injected gear over to an early block you'll need a cam and lifters too. Using the early block is a good idea in a HQ or HJ as you can avoid cats, ULP filler etc, but if it is a HX to WB ute then you are heaps better off using the injected engine.
Note that if you use a Chev pattern engine and bellhousing to suit, it will work OK with HQ and HJ or late HZ and WB, but HX and early HZ are a hassle as the clutch mechanism mounts off the bellhousing to block bolts, and as these move with a Chev pattern bellhousing the clutch brackets no longer fit!

Isn't there a guy advertising on ebay that will drill or do whatever is necessary to convert a 308 from one pattern to another?

It needs to be a bare block I think (plus you can't re-pattern HT-HQ blocks).

Decided to do it before bed. From my understanding you use a chev pattern flywheel and trimatic stall in all these aplications

Castlemain rod shop do an adapter kit for $365, you will have to modify the inspection plate though and it spaces the box back so tailshaft would have to be shortened. Also was told from several people that these are just trouble and you wont be happy with them.

Joe at Transtyle modifies trimatic bellhousings so they will bolt up to both a trimatic block and turbo block for $385, a further $88 if you wish for him to supply the bell housing.
