has anyone had any problem with the standard cam gear squirter in high revving holden 6?

im in the process of building a fairly tough 202 for speedway and i have heard of guys using brake line and running the squirter from the under side of the gears so the oil doesnt get thrown off so quickly.

is this a mod that should be done or will the standard unit suffice?

cheers, ryan

Hi Ryan , i know of several guys who race speedway or cuircut and some use standard squirter, some block the hole up all together . Theres probably enough oil that gets thrown around to keep it all lubricated thats why they block them off. Cheers Adam

If it does get blocked off, do you think there would be an issue with too much oil going to the top end?

Anyone ever heard of the squirter poping out before, as it's just a pressed in fit?

I'm going to drill and tap the oil gallery and fit a plug there as I have heard about the welsh plug poping out before.

I have heard of them being pushed out , but usually when heavy oil, high oil pressure & giving the engine a rev when the oil is cold. I always drill & tap the gallery end to take a plug & make a screw in squirter for the gears with a smaller outlet than std.

Here's a couple of pics of a cam gear squirter from an engine I built some years ago.You can also see the gallery plug in the 1st pic, instead of the std welsh plug type.

The bolt size is 3/8" UNC. This squirter has a std orifice size of 1/16".

I made a squirter for the plug just above the cam (main gallery)to squirt onto the thrust face of the cam gear and thrust plate as I always had wear at this point. I use standard gear squirter as my max oil pressure does not go past 45 psi with all the extra oiling I have in my 202

thanks for the replies guys.. looking at my block it has had the std squirter removed and blocked and the welsh plug has been replaced with a plug the same as in warrenm photos.
i was also looking at my cam bearings and they have been turned so that the std oil holes dont align up? but opposite the std holes there tiny holes in the bearings that align with holes to the mains.. is this standard?
