hi guys i was walking around a wrecking yard the other day and found this oil cap.
i haven't seen one of these before except in a magazine, steet heats torana power number 2 1992 in the THE TOY article.
it was painted engine red when i found it, just gave it a quick clean and now just trying to find out if it is a factory fitted item or aftermarket or something special. any thoughts would be appriciated.

cheers chris

Yeah, they are a factory thing, not sure what they were fitted to though. If you get a chance to see the 79 Brock A9X you will see it has one fitted though. I have one here somewhere.

They were fitted when the oil filler cap was changed when the breather tube was put into the ouside of the air cleaner.

They were fitted when the oil filler cap was changed when the breather tube was put into the ouside of the air cleaner. The L34 had them so everything else from aruond then would have had them.

they weren't a standard L34 cap, and they weren't standard on any toranas at the time. I have a NOS one here somewhere, when I find it, I'll check the numbers and see what they did come on.

the standard 2 eared cap was part number 3835665, stock on LH LX and HZ 6 and 8. The four eared cap was part number 7422035, optional on the L34 (maybe came from another model as well, but not LX or HZ). I gather it mate it easier for race teams to remove, and to secure.

yes, I'd say it was on more than one model, would be unuslual for them not use use something already available

My L34 had one as did my mates, but we fitted earlier model breathing types when we fitted 780 cfm Hollys in place of the original Rochesters.
Regards,
Gordon.
