Howdy all

I have a vision (maybe stupid, maybe realistic) to host a Torana 1/8 mile drag day in Warwick in June/July 2011. There would be sponsors (basically me and a few business friends) but would have prize money etc and a few different classes maybe blown, turbo and N/A. My main two questions are....

How many people here think they actually would drive out to Warwick to compete? Like not just, "Yea I would agree to go cause it sounds cool on a forum but in reality I actually coldn't be farked going" but a "Shit yea I would love to run my car and have a crack for a few bucks."

Second question...What is a decent prize amount? What cash would actually motivate a few people to get out there?

Although my plan is for it to be Torana exclusive, it maybe a little too narrow and I would think to try to get another few brands out there i.e Monaros and Valiants.

Any comments would be appreciated. If you have any ideas on how something like that could be done or what you guys/gals would like to see at an event would also be appreciated. I have a rough business model for it which I already feel could be financially viable and I would love to see this happen.

Cheers
Julian

The QLD Torana Drag Day as hosted by the QTCC is booked in for April 9 at Willowbank. Feel free to jump on board and give us a hand with sponsorship, organising etc if you wish. Personally, I wouldnt travel to Warwick to race 1/8 when the facilities at Willowbank are perfect and closer.

We (the QTCC) ran the event in March 2009 and it was very well received. Give me a hoi if you would like to discuss this further.

Cheers,

Tony

Thanks Tony

Didnt know about that event and certainly not trying to cut anyones lunch. I would be looking towards a generic car day at Warwick. Do you guys have a fun club race day or is it competetive with prize money etc?

All cool man. It is something we have discussed and organised at club level and I just hadnt got around to advertising it here as yet. Funnily enough I was going to post something today when I saw the Vic's were arranging their drag day earlier on. I best get my shit together and post something up soon hey :)

The one we did in 2009 had prizes and trophies donated by various businesses, GMH-T and QTCC but no prize "money" as such. The Classic and Muscle Car Club of Ipswich runs several drag days each year which are more of a fun type of event.

I reckon that a weekend event held out at Warwick might be a goer. Race Saturday, party and camp over Sat night and more racing on Sunday. We contacted the dudes who run Warwick last year to see if we could hire the track and facilities for our club Christmas party but there was some barrier with CAMS licenses and such. Im not sure what the go is with hiring the drag strip though?

I would go out and for a weekend no dramas. Its a fair trip but would be worthwhile if staying over night.

Cheers,

T
