We have several mature age apprentices at work.

Yes they exist, wage depends on the employer, think the guys at work start on around $20 for first year up to $24 for fouth year, then onward from there. Livable.

Cheers.

Ive known a few people who have done mature age apprenticeships.
One guy did electrical and two others did mechanical.
Think its available in most trades, just have to find the employer.
Wages are more than a junior apprentice, but still not a huge wage.

Yes there is such a thing.

It is availaible across a large range of trades, depending if the employer is willing to take on an adult apprentice.

Because RPL [recognition of prior learning] is part of the national guidelines, in some circumstances the indenture period is reduced.

Traditionally, the pay rates for an adult apprentice are higher than 'regular' apprentices.
But the annual increases are smaller. Both groups will end up at the same hourly rate at the end of the indenture period.[trade]

If you have the opportunity to take an adult apprenticeship in a trade you think you will enjoy, then i say GO FOR IT!

Just remember, as with all apprenticeships, if you can focus on the end goal, you just might reap the rewards for years to come. :)

25 i believe Ben.

There are exceptions with it, im 22 doing an apprenticeship on $22 an hour, but the pay rate was agreed outside of apprenticeship providers.

I still get the government wage top ups tool bonuses and other incentives, as you will if you take a mature age apprenticeship.

Works out to about $1500 a year extra which is handy.

Cheers.

as far as im aware mature age is over 21 when you start. the wages are setup differently and are generally higher. the minimum wage setup for electrical goes somthing along the lines of.

normal aprentice
1st year 40% tradies minimum wage
2nd year 55%
3rd year 75%
4th year 90%

Mature age 75% min wage for the whole 4 years

I did one as a mechanic after I turned 21.

Cant remember the exact details but it worked out that I started on 2nd year wages and I only had to do it for 3.5yrs instead of 4yrs.

I personally hated it (not because of the money) because I learned NOTHING I didn't already know. That was at a Holden dealer service division.

If you find a job you love then go for it!

I have had a large number of mature apprentices complete their time in my business in the last 20yrs most of them worked as a TA's or servicemen proving themselves prior to being offered a MMA, their wage did not reduce but stayed the same as their previous position In regards to the age some have been in their 20's 30's and 50's and most of the time it was a two year program.

Hi,
any trade you want to do can be done as a mature apprenticeship,
I did an adult apprenticeship in Spraypainting.
geting help from group training companies is almost non existant,
when I signed up an apprentice contract in 2005 I was on $14.50 an hour.
After I moved from that job, I was working as a Trades Assistant,
and that counted towards my time as an apprentice as I was working in the trade.

Adult apprentinces are paid higher than junior apprentices,
and if you are under a training contract,
you are entitled to federal government tool vouchers
and training bonuses for yourself and the employer.
But you have to have a contract to get these bonuses.

The best way to find out how to get a training contract,
like I did, contact the TAFE training centre in charge of your trade,
for example, Itithica Tafe at Red Hill are the training provider for Spray Painting and Panel Beating
for Apprentices in Queensland. I spoke to the head of program about what I needed to do to get my trade papers,
and get paid as a tradesmen, instead of getting paid as a labourer and doing a tradesman job.

Cheers
Chris.
