hey boys,

A while back (old forums) i got one of the REDA9X's blokes to look me up the sizes for the v8 water pump bolts from thier trusty resources.

anywho worked a treat, now im after the bolt specs for the upper and lower control arms to the differential.

i just upgraded to a borgwarner and i dont wanna use my shitty threaded old bolts so i think i mite just go the whole hog and replace 4 bolts lol.

can anyone help me out?

cheers.

PS: the reason im asking is i rkn they may no longer be stocked at motortraders..

I make these out to be

1/2'' UNF x 3.5" Long Grade 8 with Passivated zinc plating and conelock locknuts.

I would be absolutely amazed if you could buy those in Oz - they are a specialty automotive bolt (as are most high tensile passivate zinc bolts)

There are numerous places in the US you can get them - including the oringal conelock type locknuts (I cant remember where I saw the ones with the original locknuts).

These chevelle ones will do the trick - they are 1/2"longer but it is in the thread so they will do the job - these use nylocks though.

If you pass on the zinc plating you will get something to do the job from a fastener place but I would't do that unless another coating like HPC is used instead.

Medium, I would be absolutely amazed if you managed to break one of those bolts in normal use. They are extremely strong. I'd seriously stick with the originals, unless you know 100% that the new ones you've bought are as strong or stronger. If you bought them from Sprint, I'd doubt that they would be - what's on the tops of the bolts? Also, I don't think they would be locking nuts either.

You also mentioned "shitty threaded old bolts" - just checking, but you do know that the nuts used are self locking nuts, so they are normally very hard to do up, don't you? Have a look at the original nuts - you'll see that they are compressed at the top of the cone, forcing them slightly out of round so thay they naturally lock onto the bolt thread. If yours are stuffed, go to the wreckers and get some more out of just about any early Holden rear end - pretty sure HQ series are identical to LH series bolts.
