Can anyone tell me how long the spacer is that goes between the water pump pulley and the cooling fan blade on a '72 XU-1?

I haven't got one and need to know so I can buy the correct length.

Hi

No spacer required. The sequence is - water pump flange > pulley > fan blade > bolts.

mmmmmm.....

I'm sure the fan didn't fit straight on to the pulley I have, which are both off an LH. I'll have another look when I get home.

This also means the fan will probably foul the 308 balancer I'm using that's been adapted to fit a 202!

Hi

The LH used a spacer - LJ/LC Torana 6 cylinders didn't.

the lj water pump is diffrent to the lc one mate, and that is where your problem will lay.

But neither type used a spacer

My bad.

The locating dowel on the water pump doesn't protrude enough for the fan to fit over it, just the pulley, so I assumed there was a spacer.

I guess the bolts ensure the fan is centered.

There are two types of water pumps with the large bolt pattern .

There is a long shaft and a short shaft pump .

You must have a short shaft pump as the centre hole in the fan blade must fit over the shaft of the water pump.

OK, so now I have the correct water pump, but there's another problem.

The motor I bought came with 2 harmonic balancers, one standard and one from a 308 that's been modified to fit a 202. The crank has even been machined to take the bolt for the 308 balancer.

When I fit the 308 balancer the fan hits it and the counter-weight is so big that if I was to trim the blade I'd lose all of the bit that actually pushs the air.

So now I have a few more questions:

How much space is there between the pulley and the radiator?

Can I use a spacer or should I just go for electric thermo fans instead?

Or should I forget about the weighted balancer and just use the standard one? I'm not sure how much benefit you get from these things.

Any help would be appreciated.
