just wondering what tyres people are running on their torries these days? seems almost impossible to get say a 285/40 in either a 15 or 16 inch size go to 17 or 18 and no problem. if any 1 knows of a manufacturer making these size tyres still please let me know. thanks

Chopper may know the answer to this, but was there ever such a size? I thought that once you got over 265 you had to go to 60 series, as the proportions of a tyre that wide it's impossible to get a lower profile. Happy to be wrong on that though.

yeh i think yella might be right, i got 245/40's but im pretty sure to go up the next size u have to go out it profile as well simply cos there just isnt enough room to play with on say a 14 or 15 inch rim, but chopper will be the man to tell us if yay or nay

there used to be such a beast on my last car i built about 7 yrs ago i was running pirelli p7's at 285/40/15 on the rear at the time i bought them i heard they were fazing them out. closest thing i can find to them now is a pirelli p zero at 295/30/18 but am thinking these will be too high.

I thought Glenn's tyres would be 345/40 but I may be wrong. (Obviously I don't even want to imagine how much they would be worth)

but 40% or 345 is a lot more than 40% on 265's so thats wat may allow them to be a 40 profile.

ie 138mm wall as a 40 profile on a 265 is only 106mm

You can get 265/50s in 14 and 15" no problems.

There is definatly such a size as 285/50/15. A batch came into the country [yokies] a few months ago and lots of ppl off these forums run that size (SLR304 is one that springs to mind). Aparently its a porche size and they are highly sought after. The closest thing now is 275/40/15, as far as I know they are readily available. I've got 295/50s on mine but they are slightly too big, im trying to chase up some 285/50s.

What I've been wondering is if MT or Hoosier ect make those street slicks in an equivilent size. Ocasionally a batch of 285s come in though so keep your ears open.

Recently? I enquired about them a few months ago [345/40/15] and they guy said something around $970 each and that was my mates dads tyre shop so i think that was what he gets them for. He said they've gotta be imported. Thats yokies, dunno about other brands (if any)

CHOPPER does know. There were 285/40R15 and 345/35R15 Pirellis and Yokohamas freely available. Not so these days. QIKSLR seems to think there are 275/40R15's available. Not that I know of. 275/40's are available in 17 - 20". And as far as the 295/30/18's that mra9x was talking about, if you want to fork out $3K on rear wheels and tyres...

i bought some 10in mags not long ago and they have bf goodrich 275/50/15 tyres on em and they are about 99% brand new, so id guess they would still be available.
can you get 275 or 285 in the 40% range at all?

Regards Anthony

265/50, 275/50 and 295/50 in 15" shouldn't be too hard to find new. As I posted above, 285/40R15 were easily obtainable quite some time ago. Andrews Traction Tyres in Rowville VIC got a few sets of 285/40R15 Yokohamas earlier this year. Whether there are any left is another matter. The business has since changed it's trading name, so he may be tricky to find in the Yellow Pages. If you want a 275/40, you need to go to at least 17". There is a couple of oddball sizes in 16", but because they are an oddball size, they could be deleted before you require a replacement set.

I drive past there quite reguarly, i could double check the trading name if you want.

I dodn't need to know that, as I drive past there quite regularly myself. It was more as a benefit to other members if they couldn't find the old name in the Yellow Pages.
