Im in the process of stripping down a 4 door lj, trying to remove outer door handles but am unsure how to take these spring retainer thingys of without breaking them, im guessing the pin at the top should come out some how? the outside chrome handle wont seperate from the internal mount, hope i have explained this properly
cheers trevor
The exterior door handle assy is not made to be dismantled. You will have to drill out the pivot pins or at least enough to push the pins out with a pin punch and good luck trying to get new pins, they were never serviced as a spare part.
Probably could get some made though, unless someone has already done that and sells them.

lol, thanks for your reply quagmire,
its all good fella just had another go and got the first one out

the two bits of metal on the internal bracket that stop the handle from goin up any further are slightly bent, so moved them back a little and came straight out!
ha ha thought it might be somethin trivial, call me a dumbass but its a first for me

wont have any dramas puting them back in after paint at least, after a rechrome i reckon
cheers man

wonder how good the quality of chrome work is?
it would have to be complete assembly with mount bracket other wise like s pack said i would have to drill out pins etc
cheers

think there still nos ones or there around if you look

sorry when i say bent im talking couple mm, not much but was enough to stop it coming out, after 35 odd years of opening im not surprised, theres not much clearance to get them out so a slight bend was enough to be a pain they will be fine a slight tap will fix them, just looked on rares they have winder and inside door handle, but not outside handle
i didnt think they would.
i usually take a dozen items in at a time to the chromers to make it cheaper aswell
cheers

Sorry mate, I thought you had the handles removed from the car and were wanting to know how to dismantle the handles from the metal bracket.
Anyway good to hear you got them off.
Cheers
Dave.
