hey, i am new to GMH Torana and have bought myself an LX SL hatch back which i am planning to turn into an SS. the car is stripped and will be going for sandblasting soon but there is a couple issues that i have. I can handle most of the rust repairs by either welding in new metal or getting some repair panels off rear spares, my main concern is the area on the roof were the hatch hinges bolt onto, this area is in pretty bad shape and i was wondering if anyone knows of a wrecking yard or is wrecking or even has this actual whole section. i know this is a long shot and that ill most likely just try and rebuild it, but if anyone know someone or can help in any way it will be much appreciated. the section is basically the entire back hinge part i think its the turret or something along those lines.

thanks, Richy

thanks rodomo that topic looks good hopefully it will help with some of the repairs although my pillars are fairly good i think ( this is before sand blast)

Kush this is the rust damage ill try and get another pic from the inside tomorrow, it might be repairable but wouldnt it be easier to chop and re weld another piece ?

thanks

Hmm.... That is pretty bad.
I think that it will be quite a time consuming repair if you have to make and weld in new patches........ Nowhere near as time consuming as finding a donor section from another hatch though.

Be very careful getting your hatch sand blasted as there may not be much left to play with. Seriously I have seen a few cars ruined due it and it can be disheartening to see what is actually left! Soda blasting is the way to go if you can afford the extra costs.
Cheers Michael.

both have pros and cons
soda don't remove the rust as well
and any previous "plastic" repairs
but is a lot "gentler" and less prone to wrapping than sand/media blasting

richy i had the same issue

the section you r showing in the photo is a bit worse then mine. My problem was the underneath piece was real bad, but i removed a few sections and plated. come up well in the end.

Just put a postage stamp on it and send it to Dirtbag, he'll fix that in a jiffy.

I was thinking Paul could make this panel up to add to his repertoire (sp)

Put me on the list of buyers when you do
I need this area for 2 cars

The key to this repair is to maintain the arc in the roofline.
As you weld, the roofline will try to pull down a few millithou and the hatch lid gap won't sit right.
