Cheers

I originally had specos for mine when I was building it many years ago and had all sorts of trouble with them not reading accurately. From memory, they were very low impedance range on them and long cable lengths seemed to affect their accuracy. I changed to VDO and have no issues and they are a better quality guage that look better in my view. You will pay more for VDO's though.
I was using all electronic gauges to, not mechanical. Can't comment on their mechanical ones.

I ended up giving mine away to a mate and they are probably still sitting in his cupboard to this day I'll bet.

You get what you pay for, but all my Speco gauges are all good, i have volts, water temp and tacho. Been using them for about 5 years.

From the ones i have had i would say stay away.

You can buy Autometer guages from Summit for less than you can buy speco in AUS anyway so why bother???

Agreed with above VDO is very good.

Cheers.

Speco is an Aussie company but their guages are made in Taiwan.

I've had Speco guages, and never had an issue with them.... But I do think that Autometer ones look better and as DJ said, you can get them cheaper direct from the States!

The name Speco-(Thomas) dates back a million years and their stuff was originally made here along with heaps of other "old skool" hot rod bits like floorshifts for local column 3 speeds, solid lifter caps for hydraulic lifters, carby adapters :blahblahblah: :blahblahblah: :blahblahblah:

Now they're just using the name.

A link from that page:

Brian Sampson competed at Bathurst and won with Brocky in 1975. The story goes he only did a handfull of laps and that was only because Brocky needed to take a dump. He had a performance store called Brian's Speed Shop here in Melbourne many moons ago.
That's where you went to get your hotrod bits because there was nothing much else around then.

Brian Sampson is my first wife's father's cousin........Though I never met him, my kids are famous....sorta...aren't they? :dontknow:

I run Speco fuel, volt, oil pressure and water temp in mine. They work well and were easy to wire up but I plan on swapping them all out for VDO to match my speedo.

i had a set of speco guages i brought in 2007 and installed in my car in 2008 and only 1 out of 3 worked, took them back to Autobarn and even though the guarantee had run out months earlier they replaced them, took home and i now had 2 out of 3 work so ripped them out and put a set of summit (USA)cheap gauges in, which worked fine.
will never buy Speco gauges again

Yup steer well clear of them, and another thing you can buy the mulit plugs to fit on the terminals on the VDO gauges, makes the job so much neater and easier to work on at a later date

Hey Neil, i am receiving some cash after my other property settles in about 4 weeks. The GPS looks ok I don't go for the autometer ones.

I tried giving you a call at work today but you had left early. I'll give you a call next week.

I thought the Speedhut gauges looked ok
Add a tacho and your set... for the $ they looked pretty cool

same here. fitted mine today and it just jumps around. thought it might be lifters needing adjusting causing vac flucuations, but checked the vac gauge (autometer) and it was stable. bugger. im sure the dude wont swap it either.
