Interest in windscreens for all Torana types

Hi all,
I just thought i'd let everyone know here and see if there is any interest. Im a windscreen fitter for the bus and coah industries.
and i have finally done a deal with my glass supplier. Im not sure if any others agree with me but i do not like the look of the Blue band across the top of the windscreens i prefer the orginal look. I can put in a special order that will take anywhere from 2-4 weeks to get made up and there is a minium order of 2 screens or more for windscreens to suit TA-LC-LJ Torana (same windscreen) & LH-LX-UC Torana (same windscreen) without the blue tinited band. one thing i should let everyone know is that because it's a special order and they glass makers have to alter the production line that there is a prices difference between windscreen having a tinited band and without.
If there is any interest of members wanting a windscreen without the tinted band i will get prices together. Also they are laminated windscreens.

Hadn't even thought about my windscreen yet? That's miles away...

Are they no longer available (new) without the blue line from anywhere?

What sort of price difference?

Every new windscreen comes with the tinted band. out of all the companys that make the windscreens i've only had 1 company tell me they will custom make it without the blue tinted band. i will get prices and post them.

There is a guy in NSW that does custom curved laminated glass for hot rods etc - approved for road use.

I was going to get him to do a hatch rear screen for me at some stage - was very reasondable rates.

I will dig out his details if you are interrested.

My windscreen supplier (in Melbourne) offered me plain or blue tinted band screens for the same price IIRC, that was about two years ago. I opted for the one with the blue tinted band - that's just what I preferred for my car

O'brien glass did make both version's with/without the blue tinted band a few years ago but as of about 1 year ago they stopped making without the blue band because they weren't selling enough of them.

To suit ALL Torana models TA-LC-LJ & LH-LX-UC

With blue tinted band across the top: $ 140.00
Without blue tinted band (just plain clear) $ 200.00
NOTE: without the blue band i have to put a special order in. im going to order 2 for myself.( and i will post pictures up) and i wont have them for about 2 months. With the blue tinted band my supplier has them in stock.
If picking the glass up is a problem i can deliver the glass to you for a small fee depending on the area.

All new windscreens are laminated. the RTA changed the laws years ago stopping toughen windscreens being used.

TA-LC-LJ all came out with toughen windscreens. I still have a toughen windscreen in my LJ. not 100% about LH-LX-UC but i'll find out

TA-LC-LJ all came out with toughen windscreens. I still have a toughen windscreen in my LJ. not 100% about LH-LX-UC but i'll find out

UC Series, March 1978 - Phased-Out Early 1980

The Torana six-cylinder range consisted of the S and SL sedans and the SL hatchback. A Deluxe package was optional on both SLs and included a tinted-band laminated windscreen, tinted side and rear glass, intermittent wiper control, AM radio/cassette, cloth seat inserts, full instrumentation and front and rear bumper over-riders.

i found this from the NSW torana club website.

Is the band not just tinted film, hence removable anyway ?I had a new one in a hilux last month and did not have the tinted top bit ??

you cannot remove the blue tinted band. it's a color vinyle interlayer between the glass

Just having come across the thread, I was just about to chime in with the ^, can personally vouch that the UC deluxe defintely had the tinted blue band, those interested in orginality would definitely want it.

Also personally being 6ft 1, I ride high inside a torana and putting down the sunvisors almost cuts forward vision completely, the tinted blue band was most welcome and would insist on it in any car that gets driven during the daytime.
