A question i have, is it legal to have a bench seat.. being 3 seater in a 1 tonner with a floor shift auto?, does it need to be column shift or can it be floor shift?

In a HQ-WB tonner you'd probably have to use a cable shift as you'd never be able to move the seat forward with a rod T-bar fitted. Something like a B&M.

Why not, you could order a 4spd floor shift with bench seat right from when a Holden was fitted with a 4spd (M20 in HD/R). I think the last though would have been late 1984 WB. You could never get a floor shift auto with bench though, all were column shift right up till the last VSIII in 2000 (sold up till early 2001). I don't recall ever seeing a floor shift manual with bench in VG-VSIII either.

not sure if the authorities will like a hole cut in the floor but been based on the sedan version can't see how they can argue it
just make sure you seal it well
and if you go b_+m i think they only run the hole for the cable out of the cabin

A 5-speed manual floor shift & seating for 3 was standard equipment for all A9K Utes from VG to VSIII.
To answer the original question, I'm not sure that a floor shift auto with a 3-seater bench would be ADR legal. A manual shifter with a rubber boot thru the floor is one thing, but an auto shifter needs a 'PRND321' indicator by law & that's where you would run into leg clearance & impact injury problems.

For a floor shift T-bar you might get away with a low height shifter like one of the 70's Japanese cars.
